Do you carry a knife?

I recently lost the knife I had attached to my daypack when I go fishing. I noticed it was gone when I got back from Arizona, but I honestly don't know if it was there when we left, so I don't know if it's in California or Arizona. Either way, somebody is going to make a lucky find.

So I have been looking for a new survival type knife to purchase and carry with me and I was just wondering what knives you guys carry, if any?

I have others that just don't fit the bill for what I want. I want that tough, compact, full tang that I can beat up if I need to and it will admirably survive punishment if need be.

One of my favorites that I have is a Buck 119 Special Cocabola handle. But it's too pretty to beat up . And I think I want more of a drop point style.

Anyway, tell me what you have.

I like fixed blades, but when fishing I usually just carry a folder.

The price on the second is so nice you could get several and stash them in various luggage bags and always have one. It's not what I'd call a survival knife, but it is very lightweight and easy to carry. Comfortable in the hand too.

I like the Buck 119 Special, but not so much the cocobolo handled version. I tend to prefer the longer lasting phenolic handle in black. That is the model I have.

I also have a Becker BK2. Great knife, but it weighs a pound. Hardly something you want to carry fishing or backpacking. More of a serious camp knife. Capable of splitting wood by batoning easily. The blade is a full 1/4-inch think.

Then there's the Enzo O1 Trapper. Fantastic knife, but it's tool steel and not one I'd want in the water off and on all day. Here is the link on to where I got it: http://www.bensbackwoods.com/servlet/Detail?no=524

Carried a Buck 119 for years, put this knife through *. I really abused it and accept for the scratches on the blade and sheath it's in perfect working order. The only reason I don't carry it today is because I need to fix the belt loop and I don't know anyone that works with leather. Last but not least you can't beat the price.

I now carry a KA-BAR (1218, Full Size USMC KA-BAR, Serrated Edge, Leather) my buddy gave me after returning from his 2nd tour.

SOG PowerLock w/V-Cutter S62 This is SOG's version of the Leatherman. Comming in around $50.00 it's less than a Leatherman and doesn't rust as fast. Not as cool as a fixed blade but I use it a lot more.

My all around pocket knife is a CRKT M16-13Z $30.00 Very good utility, will start to rust if you don't oil the blade about once a month.

fisher try any shoemaker who works on boots and any riding shop. They can send it out to a saddle maker for the repair on the loop.

I'm old-fashioned and boring, I guess. I carry (always, not just fishing) a Swiss Army knife. I like a medium-sized one with a few tools, but not so many that it makes me lean sideways when I walk. The model I have now (called the Camper or the Backpacker, forget which) has two blades, bottle opener/screwdriver, can opener/philips point, awl, tweezers, saw, and most importantly - corkscrew. I've had need of all of these tools on numerous occasions, whether it is around the house to tighten a loose * or in the field. I don't leave home without it. I know it doesn't compare with some of the much larger/sharper/durable knives mentioned so far, but you asked what we carry, so there you go.

Nope, don't carry a knife. Never felt the need to carry one while fishing. All I cut when fishing is tippet material and my little nippers works fine for that.

I carry a leatherman more for the tools than the knife but it cleans fish fine.

I was focused more on a fixed blade and wanted something that would withstand punishment if I ever needed it to.

Yesterday I ended up having the wife bring me home the Cold Steel Master Hunter (non gut).

I definitely like the way it feels. Really solid. Full tang with 3/16" wide blade. Looks like it will withstand some puishment if need be. And at a good price

I carry your basic 10-function swiss-army knife, but truthfully, the more of these * survival shows I see, the more I think a larger fixed-blade knife would be a better tool in a real emergency.
