Devil's advocate here . Why don't you guys just dump those pixie sticks and go with Bamboo? Come on, you know you want to. You all talk about super feel, delicate touch and decent actions. You have just described Bamboo to a tee, baby.

The Wayne Cattanach 7042. A 7' 3-4 wt. that can easily lay out 30 to 40 feet of line with a ultra soft touch. And its so sensitive, you can feel a fish fart all the way thru the rod.

Na, not a plug, I have orders to keep me busy for a while . I am just throwing a new drug on the table for a bunch of junkies.

I would say, if you ever get the opportunity to try a good Bamboo rod, give it a shot. You will be suprised how sensitive they can be. With the modern tapers being what they are, these aren't your grandpa's rods anymore.

Ya, great idea Pete but bamboo rods are so exp... oh wait, how much did you say a TXL was? At that point it does become a "might as well get a nice bamboo" argument. Unless of course you find a deal on one. Otherwise, that rod better come with a happy ending at that price...

I agree with your description of bamboo. I pointed that out in my earlier post. It has all the attributes of what’s needed in a small stream rod. The major drawback of a nice bamboo rod is cost! My Lamiglas cost me $125 dollars. I’m not too concerned if I break it, but a nice bamboo rod broken would upset me greatly.

Heck, my Lamiglass cost me ~$365, Mark. And I built it myself. Aside from a grip by Stanbery and a rod sock by Mrs. Flybob. I would be greatly upset if I broke it. The blank cost me $110.

Grass rods are stronger than ultra lights but every bit as gentle. The 3/4 wt Pete built for me lays the fly down like a feather falling and I could not imagine wanting anything smaller.

A suggestion for people worried about expensive rods is to not break your rods. Lifetime warranties raise the price for all of us to make it convenient for everyone. I've been fly fishing for 19 years and only had one break and it was due to sheer stupidity.

Yes I've nearly broke my arm, dislocated my shoulder, or drowned holding up a rod while tumblng down the Kern but the rod always survives

Every year Sage, Winston, Loomis, Scott, T&T, TFO, Pete......opps , ect. comes out with a new rod. Every year the ad hype gets thick. Every year they sell them. Sucker born every minute? I hope so.

Bottom line. Sage is a business. I hope they sell truckloads of the new TXL-F. I think i'll save up for the latest Pete rod.

Well I for one will not lament the passing of the TXL. Now, the VT2 line going away? That's sad to me. Of course it is falling to the same line of thought that Sage seems to follow every time. The new VXP is faster and blah blah blah.

The new rods provide the cash flow for the rod makers to survive. That's why they "rotate" out their lines every 3-5 years. If a company doesn't make money, they go out of business!
Besides, would you really shell out 600+ clams for a "new and improved" rod if it was advertised as the same piece of crap as last years model!!!

You know one of these days I will break down and buy a boo rod. I was just givin ya some chit'.

I fished my buddies 3wt boo on a little creek up here and had a blast. The physical weight doesn't bother me at all because honestly even a "heavy" rod doesn’t weigh that much.

My hesitation in actually purchasing one is twofold. One I like to "try before I buy"; in other words I want to cast something before I shell out the cash. The second reason is the whole warranty thing. With my plastic rods I know if there is an accident I am covered. From what I have seen so far on bamboo if I have a mishap I am kind of S.O.L.

So do you make a rod that will load with a 40gr fly line?
