Casting....Tying....Good Food and Great Company!

Got together yesterday for a full day of fly casting instruction and fly tying and ending with some great smoked Yellowtail and TriTip. Special thanks to Larry and Mark for your great instruction and everyone else for the wonderful company and fun. It was a wonderful day and I learned a lot.

Looks like great fun! I'v never had myself filmed while casting. It looks like a good way to see what you are doing right and wrong and, hopefully, fixing a wrong thing or two.

Great company indeed. I totally enjoyed myself. Mark, thanks for organizing the event. Eric, Bob, Mark, and Tom, it was great to see you guys again. Glad to finally have the opportunity to meet Rick and Jim. Jim and I (re)discovered that the world is not so big, sharing similar experiences and friends from our previous surfing lives...cool.

I really think everyone came away from the marathon casting session with at least one "ah-ha." I know I did. I think we should do it again.

Thank you all for coming. I had a great time. There is nothing like getting a group of good friends together having a few beers and waving a few rods around, and then breaking out some good eats. I also would like to thank my wife for putting up with a bunch of guys she had never met before!

Jim looks like you guys had a great time out there casting......Learning how to cast a fly rod efficiently pays off when you are on the water......Nothing beats a day of just casting on the grass....WTG guys.....

It was amazing and incredibly more difficult then I imagined. I mean, I do cast when I go fishing. Casting correctly is another animal all together. We had planned on casting till noon and then going to Mark's house for some tying and then dinner. We were casting until 4pm. I basically was just trying to master the simple, basic forward cast. No hauls....no fancy anything. Larry and Mark would make it look effortless. I felt like I was a mechanical robot with no timing....feel or balance. Now the reason they are so good is that they practice several times a week for several hours. I've got a long way to go but I practiced today with my yarn casting practice rod thingy I bought when I first started. One of these days it will be second nature. It was good to be back in my old stomping grounds.
