Vintage Glass Rod

Postby rayfound » September 7th, 2010, 10:16 am

So, uh, on a bit of a whim, I purchased a vintage St Croix Imperial Fiberglass 7 Weight. Its an "Ultralight", and says:

"7090 XL 8' 3 5/8 oz
Rated for 7 WGT Line"

Its a 2 piece rod, and the ferrule has a weird O-ring in it.

It came with a Martin 61 Tuna-can reel. The rod is real nice shape, but the Reel is pretty rough.

Does anyone know anything about this old beast?

I'm not sure I really even have a use for a 7-Wt, but it casts nice enough, even with the old-garbage line that it came with.

Thanks Fellas

I don't know a thing about St Croix, glass rods. There is very limited info here:

I'm sure the guys on this forum will have some info..

Back in the day, a 7wt was considered a trout rod. Today, I think it would make a great largemouth rod. Post up a pic of it. I would like to see it and the ferrule.

....and let's not knock Martin 61s. They are wonderful, technological, masterpieces.
