Be aware of what you type

As this post is a result of somebody getting "offended" from my PETA thread in the opt in area; I am curious if the rules for those two opt in areas have changed any?

The Mud Slingin', Crap Flingin' Room
A place to voice your comments/concerns about pretty much anything. If you don't like debating or reading potentially strong/negative viewpoints, then you might want to steer clear of here.

The Smoky Backroom
Warning: Vulgarities and cigar smoke inside! (If you feel like you gotta use "those" words, this is your special place to do so).

Sasha,
I think this had to do with the regular posting area if I'm not mistaken. Your stuff I think is technically still safe in the opt ins

It is my understanding that this stems from a couple different things, not anyone in particular.

However, I do believe there is a difference between the use of "Vulgarities" which is allowed in the smokey back room, and derogatory terms/slurs, which don't belong within our community. We're all adults here, and its important that all of our members feel comfortable.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

Craig,

* is offensive, sense when? I can understand some of those other words. I can even ad a few like fruitcake or *. But we can’t comment on * pride week, or a * parade, What about * marriage or * rights? If that is the case than all the news I hear about gays in the news and on TV must be changed. Are you saying we should substitute Homosexual for *? Ok!

I thought it was obvious that he was saying to not use such terms in a derogatory manner. Using them in such a way as to make fun of something or as to put something or someone down.

How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

Common sense please  I also like how my original question was never answered.

Common sense is when somebody understands the context of words. Common sense is also an understanding that areas of the forum where it is ok to post such things as bare * and thongs might contain other potentially upsetting things. Common sense also would be not viewing or listening to things you might not like. For example some people might not enjoy R rated movies in the world of common sense that person would not view the movie.

Now in the world of political correctness taking things out of context is “common sense”. The invention of protected classes is a result of political correctness. How much common sense is it to take any group of individuals that want equal rights then treat them differently because they are in a “protected class”? It does not matter in what manner the different treatment occurs (both positive and negative); being treated any different or given special consideration is not equal rights at all. Sorry but any counter argument to that last statement is utter BS.

Now let’s look at actual definitions of words just for the * of it shall we:

*:

–adjective
1.
having or showing a merry, lively mood: * spirits; * music.
2.
bright or showy: * colors; * ornaments.
3.
given to or abounding in social or other pleasures: a * social season.
4.
licentious; dissipated; wanton: The baron is a * old rogue with an eye for the ladies.
5.
homosexual.
6.
of, indicating, or supporting homosexual interests or issues: a * organization.
–noun
7.
a homosexual person, esp. a male.
–adverb
8.
in a * manner.

*:

-verb, *, *•ging, noun
–verb (used with object)
1.
to tire or weary by labor; exhaust (often fol. by out ): The long climb * us out.
2.
British . to require (a younger public-school pupil) to do menial chores.
3.
Nautical . to fray or unlay the end of (a rope).
–verb (used without object)
4.
Chiefly British . to work until wearied; work hard: to * away at french.
5.
British Informal . to do menial chores for an older public-school pupil.
–noun
6.
Slang . a cigarette.
7.
a * end, as of cloth.
8.
a rough or defective spot in a woven fabric; blemish; flaw.
9.
Chiefly British . drudgery; toil.
10.
British Informal . a younger pupil in a British public school required to perform certain menial tasks for, and submit to the hazing of, an older pupil.
11.
a drudge.

Retard
–verb (used with object)
1.
to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede.
–verb (used without object)
2.
to be delayed.
–noun
3.
a slowing down, diminution, or hindrance, as in a machine.
4.
Slang: Disparaging .
a.
a mentally retarded person.
b.
a person who is stupid, obtuse, or ineffective in some way: a hopeless social retard.
5.
Automotive, Machinery . an adjustment made in the setting of the distributor of an internal-combustion engine so that the spark for ignition in each cylinder is generated later in the cycle.

Wow all those supposed “derogatory” words sure do have a lot of different meanings don’t they? Well * now that I look at the definitions I guess saying “that’s *” in a joking negative context isn’t derogatory at all. Actually in fact it makes no sense at all, given the definitions of the word. Just like this BS about being “offended” at every little thing that happens in life. Do I get “offended” when somebody says “That’s retarded”? Nope; however if they said to my daughter “you’re a retard”; depending on their age would dictate what would happen next.

Sorry about the long post and all, it is not that I actually care that much about not being able to type certain things. It is because of all of this "I am offended” about every little thing that happens no matter the context; as well as the don’t do X because somebody might get offended attitudes that seem to be so prevalent these days. Actually it offends me that so many people are so easily offended. I guess that does not matter as I am not privileged enough to be a member of a protected class. Should I have been offended when my aunt (she is a *) use to tell my brother and I that we were “*” when we did or said something stupid?

Don’t fear I will no longer type the words mentioned above in those areas of the forum where I can post thong and bare tit pics and type other choice words….. I am sure somebody will ultimately reply to this post; don’t bother as I am done with this _ _ _ thread.

As a side note, I originally wrote three paragraphs for this matter. And look what I pared it down to. Why? Because too much of it was going to be considered "questionable" and it would only have caused more bitterness.

How's 'bout a big...

My friends this thread is in direct response to me. I have discussed this subject and respected both Sasha and Nic's opinon. What I didn't like is that the use of the words had no connecting to the definition in the dictionary. They were used directly as foils. The word * was equal to being stupid and the word homo was directly related to mean a perverted person stocking around in a desolate area in order to do harm. I am not offended by any term that is not used related to defamation. When using the phrase 'your such a retard' we all know that that means an person of less then average intellect, someone who is less than the person saying it.

And Doctor... you do need a tan with that hat!

If you all knew how much a appreciate this forum and all it's members, how much I enjoy the brotherhood of the rod and fly... it might surprise you. I also love the banter and discussions in all the 'opt' rooms. It isn't a matter of sensitivity or PC it's a matter of mind set allowing deprecation to pass as acceptable.

If I have offended anyone I always apologize to that person directly. I am taking this opportunity to do that to nick and Sasha if you feel I have impinged on your civil rights, abilities to speak your mind or your humor. But I do not apologize for how I reacted.

Hope to see you all on the water.
