Quick Question

This shows how much I do this but here goes. What do you clean all the crud off of your rod with? Cleansers don't sound good and I've got some ugly build up around my guides. I remember using Q-tips but not what I used to clean it with. Thanks in advance--strohble Also, I'm having trouble getting two sections loose, stuck bad. Any advice?

I use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo on the rod and line. I then give it a finish with armor-all. it gives UV protection and the line flies thru the guides.

For the rod pieces stuck.
Grab the pieces with your left hand that are stuck together and put them right behind your knees, grab the the other end that is sticking out from the right side of your knees with your right hand and use your legs to force the two pieces apart.
This does work.
Once you do have the pieces apart apply parafin wax to the male section so it does not happen again. Candle wax will work as well.

Good luck on getting your rod apart. I had to send one back that would not come apart. The manufacture could not get it apart also. I had to get two new pieces. I now use Renzetti Furl lube on all my rods!

To clean up the guides use Never-Dull, and wax the rod. Armor-All wipes work good on the line like Curtis said. Make sure you wipe the line dry after applying the Armor-All. Other wise it will be sticky and will not slide through the guides smoothly and will quickly pick-up grim. We use this stuff at the casting pond to get the best performance from the line.

Don't do it! You'll lose all your mojo if you clean it off.

The very few times I've cleaned rods, I just used a auto polish, or cleaner wax. I bet Pledge would work too. No doubt Simple Green would clean it, but I hate the smell. Plus, if you have some light scuff marks, a polish will get them less noticeable. You know how the chicks like shiny rods.

for separating 2 stuck sections of a Rod.. Ice down the ferrule area.. this will cause the material to shrink enough to loosen the sections from one another.. This really does work very well, and no chance of damaging either section...
