Say hello to an unexpected addition...

Postby 1mocast » October 10th, 2010, 11:17 pm

As some of you may know, I had a short list of rods that I enjoy casting. Number one on the list was the Sage SLT 389. I had casted Mark's (fly addict) and just fell in love. Well, I was looking for one and unexpectedly, its older sibling fell into my lap...

Mark

Congrats on the rod. I wonder what will happen if you cast some of my vintage pre IM6 Winston's? ;)

As you should be! That's a nice find.

It's been a long time now, but I cast both the LL(389) and SLT 3wt. I REALLY liked the 389.

Thanks guys.

Here is a question. Does anyone know the difference between the Graphite II vs Graphite III? I have seen them with the uplocking reel seat on the GIII's. The one I have is a downlocking slide band GII.

Just curious...

I knew I dropped that somewhere - I'm so glad that you found it when it fell into your lap. I can't wait to get it back!

Now Mark, be careful. You don't want to go and make the Lamiglas jealous. She's got many more fish to show you as well. :D Congrats on the new addition. 8-)
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

They (sage) don't carry graphite II blanks anymore. So if you break it, you may need to buy a new blank in graphite III @ around $175. Still worth it, still a great rod. I have the 389-4, 279-2, and 590-4 in LL. Love them all!

What you have there, is the first generation of the LL series. It wasn't long after it's introduction, Sage found some serious flaws with the scrim layup, and they went to a already proven generation III composite. Most folks with the GII, just put them in the closet and bought something else. Really. They were that bad.

I feel bad you were taken this badly. I'd like to send you a TFO rod to replace that piece of junk. All I ask is send me your useless GII LL, so I can make a fly swatter out of it. No thanks needed. I'm just that kinda guy.
