Greys Streamflex rods are available in 10-foot 3wts. I've got it in a 4wt and so far really like it. A couple of the other guys here have the 3wt and seem to really like fishing them.

They run about $300, which is not too bad as fly rods go. I am not sure what else to suggest.

I know that the Fishermans Spot had them on clearance or sale or something recently but do not know if that is still ongoing. But you could certainly call Ken at the Spot to find out.

Here's a link to the thread where Ken announced the sale on this forum:

How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

What do you consider as the expensive stuff? Some would find $300 as expensive. Others $600. There isn't much under $300 in that length, but you could build your own customized to your own wishes for under $300. There are blanks you can buy on ebay that meet the criteria of a 3 weight, and dan craft has a great 3 weight in that length, but I don't think it is in stock now. I've not seen any 2 weights in that length.

If you build, or know someone that builds rods, Dan Craft makes a 10' 3wt. The few guys that I know that have one, like them.

Looks like they are out of stock right now. If you call them, they'll give you an update, and who might have one in stock.

<edit> Midger has posted the same info<edit>

Angler's Roost is another option. They have a 10' 3/4wt for very cheap. I picked up a blank on Stanbery's recommendation and I really like it. It's manufactured overseas and isn't the fanciest quality rod, but I don't think you'll find anything else in that price range and it is definitely a great value for what you pay.

You might want to email the guy and double check if this is actually the BUILT rod or if it's just the blank and components.

Either way, you could get the blank shipped for $45 I believe, and components should be around $40-50 not including epoxy, finish, and thread costs, depending on how fancy you get. I don't know if you build or would consider starting, but it's an option.

Here's the one I built for myself: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4728

The Spot does have a 10' 3wt from grey's still on clearance. The reason they are on clearance is that they have made some cosmetic changes to the rods for 2011. We also have a 10' 5wt in stock. Normally they are $299.00 clearance price is $199.00

How about a 10' 4wt in Winston's b11x? Cheap and closeout. AND it's made in Montana. 09er

Not sure if they're out yet but Greys will be coming out with a 10' 2wt XF2 Steamflex as well as an 11' 3wt in the $310-$330 range.

Call The Fisherman's Spot or Sierra Trout Magnet to find out if and when they'll be carrying them.

Thanks for the tip on the Greys Streamflex rods. I've been thinking about getting a 3wt that I could use when nymphing the LO this winter and just couldn't pull the trigger on a Winston or Sage from the $$'s standpoint. I've got a Streamflex on the way.

Great choice. I have had one now for over a year (10’ 3wt) and it has been a nice addition to my collection. I use that rod for all my nymphing now. The new Echo is also a nice rod.

I fished my new Greys Streamflex 10' 3wt this weekend nymphing the LO. Wow, the thing roll casts like a dream. It's great at the flip cast where you pick up the line at the end of a drift and flip it back up stream for another drift. The extra length is great for high sticking and mending. I really like this rod, it was just what I was looking for to use this winter. As expected it didn't work quite as well when tossing dry flies. Thanks for the recommendation.
