Still, a van is the way to go because you won't always find a motel or campground and can sleep in the van.

You might want to send yourself (or the nearest fly shop) near the town of your destination a package that contains an ice chest, tent, sleeping bag, stove, lantern, cookware, etc... That'll save you a bunch of time and money. Just get off of the airplane, rent a van and follow your itinerary and fish.

As a veteran road warrior, I'll give you some helpful tips.

- Make a travel itinerary (travel, fish and camp plans) Have them routed, timed, and mapped.

- Make the route a loop that you can fish either way.

- Make backup plans for each river and campsite/motel. You might get rained on at a certain stop. So you need to have back up locations nearby or do the loop in reverse order.

- Get some emergency contacts near your destination and buy AAA. The car rental may come with roadside assistance.

- Get worldwide cell coverage if don't already have it. You can just get a short term contract or modify your contract.

- Take a fishing buddy. Preferably, one with a *.

:D :D :D :D
I have paid all attention to your tips, dude! LOL
They´re fantastic and have very important points for anyone consider before taking a trip like the one I am
about to do. Have added them to my list (checklist)!

thanks!

I was in Wyoming, YNP, this last August and yes, very crowded, that being said - I still got a lot of fish the few days I was there, although, not much bigger than what I normally get on my local day trips from home. But I never caught a cutthroat or a brookie in Southern Cal so it was still a lot of fun. This is going to be a great trip for you, do your homework, and stay away from the tourist spots, if you can afford guides and drift boats you will do much better, there is, however, a humble satisfaction in doing it all yourself. Good Luck! A small tent, pack, and sleeping bag will pay for itself in two or three days of hotel fees, if you are into that sort of thing.

How is fly fishing for piranha in the amazon? Brazil fish make USA trout look like cheap bait!

Very crowded. I'm guessing that is the busiest time of year.

huuuuummm

Gee! Is there any option this period of the year NOT too crowded?
Not that I want the whole river for myself (LOL) but I suppose things become more
expensive that period, don´t they?

Alex,

CROWDED is relative...The Madison is a very big river...at $3.00 Bridge, there is no boat traffic. I have been there a number of times...I start before sunup and usually finish the day at 11PM...when it's real dark and I am tossing streamers. In the time I have spent there ( months on end ) I have never felt "crowded"...
