Slow Leak?

Postby dray » December 14th, 2010, 9:56 am

I have a pair of Simms waders and have noticed a slow leak coming from somewhere. I went on their web site and found spraying a solution of rubbing alcohol/water mixture on the interior fabric of the waders will bring out small holes by showing up as black spots. I did this and was able to locate what appeared to be a few small pin holes, however, I noticed one of my main inseams turned black too. Is this an indication that the seam needs replacing? Just curious..

Depending on how much of the seam turns black, I would just seal it with Aquaseal. If it's your opinion the seam is going to fail, I would contact Simms Customer service, and make arrangements for them to look at it.

I have an old pair of Simms waders. I've sealed pinholes, and seams, and the repairs have held up. I don't use the waders much anymore, but expect them to need small repairs in the future. In my experience, ALL waders leak. Some right out of the box, and some after a year(or less)of use.....but as long as you are using them, they will eventually leak.

Yes, I would say you have a seam leak. Fixing seam leaks is very difficult, and most fixes are temporary fixes. In an emergency, use Aquaseal, but for a permanent solution send them back to Simms.

Thanks for the response guys. Ya, I was afraid of that. I thought it was weird when the seam turned black too. Well I'll try the Aqua Seal on the pin holes and see if this helps and if not, I'll make arrangements to send them back and have them looked at closer. Thanks again, dray
