Plug for little brother

Postby buggravy » January 1st, 2011, 6:40 pm

Shameless plug for my little bro, who is a redfish guide down in Louisiana. If you haven't seen it, Flip Pallot has a new show on the Outdoor Network called Fishing Frontiers, and the season premier is him fishing with my brother. It has aired a couple of times since yesterday, and is on again tomorrow at 7:00 am. I actually haven't seen it myself, but am watching on DVR tonight. Tune in if you're so inclined.

What's his name and website? I have a deeprooted obsession with catching a redfish.

Cool!
Care to shed any insights with respects to the oil spill aftermath?
* Perhaps it's in the show right? *
Very curious.

They touch on it briefly, but basically the oil never really made it back into the marshes where they fish. Favorable winds through much of the spill really saved the day. I think the big fear was what the effect would be on spawning, as reds move out to open water when they become sexually mature (bulls), and then return to the marshes to spawn in the fall. Alec said the bulls showed up as they normally would, in normal numbers, and their food supply doesn't seem to have been diminished. So unless there's a long term effect that hasn't reared its head yet, the marshes and the reds have been miraculously spared with virtually no negative effect. Alec had one of the best falls that he has seen. The perception of the situation kept anglers away for a while, and really killed business for the guides down there for a few months, but even during that time he said that about 5% of the water he would normally fish was closed, and even that was mainly for testing.
