What is your pet peeve?

Postby borntoflyfish » January 4th, 2011, 9:33 pm

I was kind of wondering what it it that is your pet peeve. As a fly fisherman . I know some people would say getting skunked. For me it's tyeing flys that fall apart on the first few fish I catch. Trash left on the river.

People who way over think fly fishing and that have more gear than they know how to use. Just tie on a stupid recommended fly and cast. Also, those who must fish the designated wild trout areas, they aren't always the best place to fish, and can be the most crowded.

Wind. My fishing takes me to some of the windier places in Ca. I've usually had my fill by July. :fireangry:

I have to add one more, when I'm nymphing and get my first birdsnest with a 2 fly rig. Usually after the first one I have to bite off I only fish with one fly.

Gosh, there are so many that could apply but I guess since I like small streams and we have so many local ones, I'd have to say it's the trash, though outing a local stream come in a very close second.

Inflexable people! People who say blood knot is the only knot. People who say they are experts without hearing others out. People who don't slow down on a dirt road while you're standing by your truck! People who 'crush' the water before they fish the edges. (Geez take a breath Ariel)

1)Trash on the river. Especially in a catch and release area. :deadhorse: :deadhorse:
2)People with no regard for the health of the river or it's surroundings. :fireangry: :fireangry:
3)People who obviously have no license.
4) People who take fish legal or not (just a personal peeve). Especially during spawns. :o :o
5) PEOPLE WHO JUDGE OTHERS

Getting ready for fishing While sitting on your tail gate. To jumping up and slam it shut. and to watch the top half of your poll fly off into the woods.
Standing in the middle of the river to hear something behind you. And as you turn around to have a rafters slam into you. And then have them say ( Well I guess you should have moved)
Fishing up river from a guide and his clients. Now this was a 100 yards away. And have him come up to you and ask if you'd move some where else. And you ask him why? He says your catching to many fish. Your making me look bad.
Some of these post I got a good laugh from.
But I think this one here is the worst one. All the trash. That one just makes me feel bad.
when I started this post I was hoping it wouldn't turn into a rant. But I think these things makes us all feel about the same.
The wind is a good one. Having it blow so hard you can't even set you line on the water.
My wife came in with one. Going to the fly shop on the green. And pay 10 dollars for their 3oz. bottles of mayonnaise & ketchup.

Flyfishers who always use gear that is too light for they Species they are targeting... I mean Flyfishing is already Light when compared to a spinning or casting rod made for the same size fish.. But they have to go Macro Light with their Gear on the Fish (to probably make them feel Really Macho or something silly like that)
Undergunned examples would be: Targeting Chinook Salmon with rods lighter then an 8wt., Targeting Leopard sharks with rods lighter then a 7wt...
You read about the "undergunned" anglers and they always talk about how long it took to Land the Fish.. well dummy, if you used the appropriate Sized Rod and Reel, you would have landed the Fish quicker...
And since 99.999999999% of all Flyfishers practice Catch & release.. It's Only Logical that the Faster you can land the Fish, the quicker You can release it Unharmed...

Fishing too light of a Set up for the species You are targeting is Like bringing a BB Gun to a Tank Battle.. You never will win... ;)

I also have to agree with a Number of peeves mentioned already in this Thread..... 8-)
