New Addict

Postby fishhunterphil » January 12th, 2011, 9:58 pm

Well it says I joined back in august and I reckon I have lurked around a bit, but this is my first post!
Was born and raised in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains till I hit my teens and then it was out to Tennessee and North Carolina. Been fishing since I was 9 where I started spin fishing at a 3 month summer trip to the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota. Fished everything I could from then on until my late teens and got distracted, you could say. Started casting flies for the first time when I was about 13, but I was using my spin rod and it wasn't very effective on those Smokey mountain fish.
Fast forward through college to my senior year and I dove back into fishing pretty deep. I started fishing every day, in the morning before class, or in the evening after work, on my lunch break from work. One day, after getting off work I was fishing a little pond in raleigh, nc and met a guy who was fly fishing and just having a blast catching bream. He asked if I wanted to try, I said yes, and that was it...I was hooked. So I have been fly fishing for about three years now and been back in CA for almost one and it is certainly an addiction although I think I have it under control :D
I like to bushwhack in the local mountains and wherever I can find a healthy combination of solitude from the madness of this world and wild trout.
I've tied a few flies but haven't built rods or anything awesome like that...yet.
Hoping to get out and fish with other flyfishers more this year, so look forward to meeting/seeing you all on the stream.
This forum seems to be the best collection of knowledge, positive attitude, and overall vibe I have seen on any of the fly fishing forums and I look forward to learning and sharing with everybody going forward.

How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

You are welcome here under the condition that you have a constant supply of nice photos for me to gawk at :D

Great first post and excellent pictures.

Sure we all have this "addiction" under control. ;) ;) That's why we eat, sleep, and think flyfishing and plan our next trips while on the current outings. Yepper, under control.

Glad you decided to join in. If PapaS asks you to join his club :booty: , um, I think I'd pass.

Welcome aboard. Looks like you've "been to the circus and seen the elephant"! Looks like you have your addiction under control with lots of applications of water, flies and incredible scenery. You're a darn good photographer as well.

Welcome duder! You'll learn a lot from these kooks and seems like you'll have a lot to share from those photos. We've got a few really good rod builders here and a few newbies so feel free to hit us up on details of getting into that addiction as well.
