Frog driving west

Hi

I just sign on the forum yesterday ,since i am a flyfishing addict.
Just to tell you briefly who i am
First i am a "frog" (100% frenchman) living in France and i have been fly fishing for 15 years (only fly ) ,i have fish 99.99% of my time in France and let me tell you the trouts are SMALLER here oh and i am 65.
I have family in the states (NY ,WI,Chic,Cal (Sac) ) and i am planning a trip to visit this summer .We have a family reunion upstate NY so i'll land in JFK .
After the reunion (one week) i plan to drive an old van ,yet to be found , towards CAL and fish on the way (may be 6 weeks)
Montana ,Wyoming ,Idaho and Cal .I check on the net some waters :Big Spring ,Boulder,Gallatin,Madison upper,Rock creek ,the Yellow. Park.,Jackson'hole or Henry's fork ,Spring Creek idaho , and on to Calif.

Any advices on these waters ? I fish dries mostly and wading .I am not use to float ,it does not exist here .

Welcome, "Frog". It sounds like a trip of a life time. My advice would be calling the local fly shop in the area that you wish to fish before you get there. As seasons change so do the water conditions and fly selections. Good luck and keep us posted on your trip.

I was wondering if any of the rivers i named are not too crowded in the summer

Large waters are not all they are cracked up to be. Make sure you also visit a few of the small waters. There is so much help here. You will get more personal information they you could dream. What advice does Mr. Barry have? Dr.? All of you are so knowledgeable that I know we can all offer some advice to make this a trip to remember. Flyster is correct. Weather, even summer weather can change very quickly. Also... insects! Be ready for those little bitting beast. I would like to suggest contacting some of the clubs along your route. I have done this on many trips and often they will invite you out onto 'their' waters, not to mention being shown some of the better eateries.

Most of the rivers you want to hit will have crowds. Summer is prime-time for most vacation planning. If you hike a little ways from the parking or access points you might find solitude. Sounds like a fun whirlwind trip.

That's what i tought ,but then nice rivers with a lot of fish are attractives .Any flyfisherman in France heard about these waters ,but finding secret waters is not really possible unless they are in your backyard.
I named the mains rivers but the only thing i know about them it's what i read on the net.and of course i am open to any suggestion.

Can't really help on your trip as I have never been up to any of those rivers...yet.
I would have to second Bernard's comment though, those rivers combined could consume a lot of attention.
