Big Sunfish...!!

Postby Flyjunkie » March 25th, 2011, 5:40 pm

The South Carolina State Record for Shellcracker Sunfish is 5 lbs. 7oz.. This Shellcracker weighted 5lbs. 4oz. ~ just 3 oz. short of the Record... :(

It was caught in the Savannah river near Deepstep...

I figured Folks around here would like seeing this Monster Sunfish... Except for the Trout Pussies, that is... ;)

Man, a sunfish that mated with a bass! I can't even imagine the fight that thing laid down.

Well Nick, as there are no Shellcracker Sunfish here in California, that might be pretty tough.. Here in CA. we have the Following Sunfish : Bluegill, Green, Redear, Black & White Crappie... Oh yeah, the Sacramento perch as well... (the Only member of the Sunfish family native to west of the Rockies)..

That Picture has me Pumped up to visit Lake Casitas, above Ventura, starting in May for those Big RedEars and Bluegills as they come in after the Bass to Spawn.. you want a 3 lb. Sunfish??? That is the Lake I'd place my bets on.... ;)

That Near Record Shellcracker would tye your 4wt. rod into a pretzel and not break a sweat...

Big Sunfish can do that... Too Bloody Cool!!! 8-)

:o Can you say HUBCAP!

That is too cool, I can only imagine the fight that that fish put on!

By the way Dean, someone told me that there are Copperhead gills in DVR and Lake Perris?
The first time I saw a copperhead was in the big fish tank at BPS.
