Redington Rods

Postby strohble » March 31st, 2011, 5:44 pm

I broke my steelhead rod over the weekend, AGAIN!! and needed a cheapie replacement to get me by while my broken one is in repair so I went with a 9'6" 7 weight, four piece. It's the RS4 I believe. Does anyone own or have anything to say about Redington? I know little about them and went for the bargain sight unseen, hope I like it.

I have a Redington Predator 8'3" 9wt. And have no complaints. It is nicely finished. I don't honestly know if it casts well as I throw a heavy Rio depth max / quick max with it.

I've got 2 RS4s. One is a 7wt for bass, and one was a backup 9wt. I started using the 9 last season. Both are nice rods. A bit softer than the old CPS, and quite a bit softer than the new CPX. Low cost and good performance. Overall, I'm happy with my Redingtons. Another plus is the good warranty service. Just sent back a 9wt(CPS) for a second time, and should have it back in a couple weeks.

I've got a 4 piece RS4 in 4wt. that came as a replacement for my RS2 that a buddy snapped the tip off. It seems pretty nice, although the gold color is kind of lame IMHO. I liked the darker RS2 design better, but have been satisfied with Redington quality and especially their customer service.

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone, that review was especially nice. I've heard nothing bad about them so I'm looking forward to casting it. Thanks again y'all.-----Eric

What rod did you break?

The one "bad" thing about the RS4 is the color. ;)

Like I mentioned, I have 2 RS4s. Both sat for almost a year or more, before I started fishing them. I cast both, and thought I wouldn't like them( a bit softer than I usually fish). Once I took the 7wt out and fished it, it became my go to rod. It retired a Winston Vapor. I let someone use my 9wt for a day. I set it up and test cast it with a new line, and thought it was ok. Once I fished it, I rotated into service. Considering I paid around $125 for each, they are one of my better buys.

<edit> I received my rod back from Redington. Door to door was only a week turnaround time. I was hoping they would repair my CPS, but knew that might not be possible(discontinued). They sent me a brand new CPX. Gonna miss that CPS, but I'm happy with the outcome.

I broke my Scott E2. This is the third repair since I've bought it. I dunno if I'm overtaxing it fishing for steelhead with a 6 weight but for $500 it should hold better I think. I Think it's the blank but who knows, maybe it is me.

And on another note I just got an e-mail telling me the RS4 is out of stock & Redington is on backorder until June. I'm trying to work it out. I just wanna' fish!!!! :fireangry: :gun:

I got screwed!! Had a choice between an Echo Ion 10' 7 weight 4 piece or a two piece Winston 9". I went for the Echo. Anyone know anything about these rods? It sounds pretty good. http://www.gofishn.com/gear/282-echo-ion-7wt-
