Make sure you check out Cabelas. Check out their RLS line of reels. They have a really good drag, meant for BIG fish, and I think they might be on sale too. I've got this reel and love it.

All of the Orvis Battenkill reel are discontinued. They are now the access and hydros series reels

You mean they are getting rid of the regular and Bar Stock Battenkills too? That would be a shame. By the way, Orvis needs to update their website. To see the new Hydros reel, I had to go to a fly shop's website. Couldn't find it on orvis.com? Nice looking reel!

you can try out the anglers roost reel that I bought.And i can attest you is cheap * . Oh ya where we going for the opener.

The Hydros is a sealed drag and the reel is machined out of bar stock aluminum. The reel is also anodized. All good things for in the sirf. Just remember anything done out of stamped metal or molded will not be as durable or corrosion ressistant as anodized barstock aluminum. Also with plastic (graphite) reels, they do not do well when dropped on sharp objects. The main reason that the Hydro and Accesse reels are cheaper becuase they are made in Asia (S. Korea). The machining is excellent, and no different than if they were done here (this is not a commentary on American vs. offshore just the reality of economics). Another option is the reels made by the now resurrected Teton USA reel company. It is more than $100, but well worth it. I have abused on for over 15 years now, all in the surf. It work like it was still new, plus made in Chicago suburbs.
