Yak Modifications....

Postby Benny » May 14th, 2011, 9:06 pm

well nothing real crazy or anything like that, just a few things. A few months ago my friend Nick hooked me up with a fishfinder, it was just the head unit but it was still functioning. I needed to track down a mount to hold the unit it was a bit tough but I managed to find one online. I also needed a transducer and a GPS puck, both those items were easy to find on Ebay. Today I finally mounted a Ram mount for the head unit, my kayak looks all pimped out now

The fishfinder install is almost complete, I just need to goop the transducer to the inside of the yak. The goop usually take a few days to cure, I'll hopefully be doing that tomorrow or this week.

Oh.... I also put a marker to the Kayak, yup I tagged the heck out of it. I had the tape measure out so I tagged on some numbers just in case I keep a fish or two in the future. Measurements at 12" is for bass, the 22" mark is for halibut, the 28" mark is for white seabass and cudas, and last but not least the 36" mark is so I know when I catch a legal sized Leopard shark, I'm not going to keep the shark, but I do want to know if it was of legal size when I do fair hook one ;)

Looking good, Benny! It's handy to have a few boogie board leashes attached to your d-rings to secure rods, nets, etc. The biggest lesson I have learned in the years I have kayak fished is to have EVERYTHING but you attached. Everybody flips 'em sometimes, and it's a good idea to be prepared. Maybe later this summer we can do some kelp bed fly fishing from our kayaks, if you are interested.
