Locked and Loaded!

Postby flybob » June 29th, 2011, 11:38 am

Well, here she is Locked and Loaded and 10 pounds lighter than last year!
I put her on a diet this year, and now she is all dolled up and waiting for a date with 5 days of prospecting for GOLD! :bananadance:

Yeah I know, External Frame, but I am OLD school, (emphasis on OLD!) and I kinda like to just hang stuff on it anywhich way, I call it my Beverly Hillbillies Jalopy! :ugeek:

Hey Ryan, you will be proud of me, It's down to 40lbs, and the only thing missing is the Martini bottle and the olives, that will go in tonight. :D

Mission commences at O-dark-thirty tomorrow!

Bob-
Another adventure getting started! I envy you guys. I am getting my 56 year old Kelty pack back in commission to use for my upcoming backpacking trips. It's actually lighter then my high end pack. My goal for pack weight is more modest.....15 lbs before food and water. I tried the 40lbs and just can't hang with that anymore. Post pictures...you're gonna have a ball in that target rich environment.

Sweet! Have you tried the new dehydrated martini's? That'll save some weight! :bananadance:

Thanks everyone! Pictures..To Be Sure, barring no major Solar Flares to * up the electronics! Or lightning strike, God Forbid!

Eric, I can easily shave another 6lbs off the pack, but there are just some things that I cannot do without:

1) Yuppie 911....about 20 oz. They have newer lighter models, but I just can't spring for another 500.00+ while this one is still good.

2) Emergency Surgical Suite, about 3 pounds. could just go with bandaids, but after I split my shin open a few years ago...and broke my pinky last year, I like to feel I have the necessary equipment to put myself back together. If it requires more, then I just punch up the PLB.

3) And of course, 3 nights of pre-prepared "Double Martinis" with 6 olives in Vermouth Brine. Another pound or so.

besides, it such a short hike.......STRAIGHT UP! I like to tell myself I am just going to the top of a 100 story building....using the STAIRS!

Have fun up there, Bob. Way to go on getting the load significantly lighter than last year. Of course, there's probably a bit more weight you could trim off ;) ;) ;)

And she looks 10 years younger too! ;) Gotta love the old school, external frame packs. They will haul all your gear, and a six pack to boot(I know).

Have a great trip.....and you kids be careful!
