Waterproof Digital Camera Suggestions???

Postby Dry Fly Rie » July 13th, 2011, 9:18 pm

As an early birthday present, I've convinced my wife that I should get a waterproof digital camera for my fishing exploits so I don't have to use our normal camera when I'm in my float tube or wet wading. Any suggestions from some of you who use them? I'm looking for something under $200 (if that's even possible). I don't need anything real special. I just want to be able to take good photos and not have to worry about dropping the camera in the water or getting splashed by a fish.

Thanks in advance.

DFR
I recently purchased a Pentax w90 from beach camera for under $200 and it takes some pretty good pictures. My friend has one and I've seen him stick it under water and take stills and movies. I'm happy with it.

DFR, there are some really good ones out there, I have the Canon D10 and love it, but I think it is not in the ballpark for the budget.
Whichever cam you choose, put a lanyard, neckstrap, or zinger on it, keep it attached to your body, and you will not have to worry about dropping or loosing it. I dunked a really expensive cam twice before it stopped working, hence the D10, which is also shock-tolerant to 30Gs! And I have already tested that feature TWICE! Not even a dent!

Good luck!

I recently replaced my lost Olympus waterproof :( with the Panasonic Lumix TS10 for under $200. I have only taken it out a couple of times but seems to be a decent camera. Time will tell.

The latest reviews rate the Canon D10, Panasonic, and Optio W90 /WG-1 very closely. The Canon is still above $200.

Take a look at Steves Digicams site for their reviews.

Maybe waiting, for a later birthday present, and spending a few $$$ more, could put one into this:

I looked at all the waterproof offerings, back in May before spending eight days in Bridgeport with my
son...that's the one I went with...we used it on th EWR, HC and Robinson Cr. to take almost all our water related photos and many that were not...

A patient look around would provide sources for this camera at a price that won't move one into the dog house...

I (and this guy) REALLY like this product !!!

I use an older model of this one. Works very well (I think) and it's durable. Also works well in salt water! Just rinse it well.
