Need some help

Postby Artin » July 19th, 2011, 9:24 pm

Hi guys,
Ok, so I'll be going to Vancouver in Sept. I don't know squat about the place and fishing it. I couldn't help myself with Aairfare so cheap. It would have cost me about the same going to the sierras.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I am looking to target Steelhead, Bull Trout, Salmon etc. I hear there are coastal Cutts on the Island but it's an added 4 hours to the travel time.
Thanks all in advance.

Nice, thanks Tim. I really enjoy your site. I go on it from time to time. Especially after you put up new posts. Love the fly ideas as well.... I figure.... Experience counts.

'75 huh? are those rivers still on their same course since then? I was negative 3 years old at that time....
Thanks for the tip. I love that your friend is in the Circus thing.... that's awesome. I clicked on Fritz's link and saw his pictures. What a beautiful horse he's got on there. I lived in Germany for about 2.5 years prior to coming here to the States. It's an awesome place. I loved it there. I have been to some shows there. They are a whole lotta fun to go to. I haven't been to any here though.
Love the steel pic.... so retro. And it had the adipose fin too... 75 year old guide.... awesome

I am doing hw as we speak. I found a couple of sites about bc fishing. One is a ff forum the other is a sport fishing forum. It's amazing how accurate meat forums can be. Were worried about hot spotting. There are literally gps coordinates on some of those forums. (They're lucky I'm lurking and I don't bring a large cooler with me for the fish.) They are sister sites I've read. So I'm picking at the August through November posts trying to figure things out.

I just figured I'd get some cliff notes on the area from our community here if anyone has been and fished in Vancouver.

There's a guide named Angie up around that part of the world you might want to check out.

Several years ago I spent a week in BC, northeast of Vancouver(Meritt). One of the guys I fished with had a website on steelhead fishing, on Vancouver Island. Now if I can just remember his name, I might be able to track down that website.............. What I can tell you is check the fishing regs. They are/can be very confusing for the rivers up there.

Thanks for the info. I looked at Hannas site. Great facility... way out of our budget! Were also going to be in the Vancouver area. It's a weekend trip so time is limited and I need to make the most of it. My buddies are actually wanting to do Sturgeon fishing as well. I will join them on one afternoon.
Yea from what I hear when the pink go into the system the sturgeon go wild on them. So what I've found out talking to my friends which recently got back from their first trip to Vanc. is that they will fish the pink in the morning keep some and use them as bait for the afternoon sturgeon bite. Sounds pretty cool. But I was thinking more of wading around and fishing for steelhead and salmon(if poss.) one full day.
Also after talking with my other buddy whos also going. We may take off a day or 2 before the rest of the crew comes up as he is also an avid fly guy... So we may and up having a couple of days fishing tribs to the Frasier. I think. That;s the million dollar question.... which trib.....
I am looking into getting a guide for a day, I will need one. I hardly ever fish unknown waters without a guide when I go for the first time. Learning curves can be a.... Also it's nice to kick some down to the locals. They work pretty hard to help us and I kinda like being spoiled with a guide taking me directly to the fish!
Most guides are very cool people, with the exception of this one guy my friends hired in Oregon who turned out to be a complete *. The things they told me about his behavior and the insulting things he would let slip I would have never paid the guy a cent.... the guy told them not to walk back into his boat without taking their shoes off and washing them so that they wont dirty his boat... Really? Amongst other things... But 99% of the guides I've met have been good people.
Anyone notice that creek and river names are not on google maps anymore?

Post your question over here: http://www.flyfishergirl.com/forum/
Granted it is Hannahs site as well but you should be able to get some info as well for the area that you will be traveling to.
