That is very cool! He's lucky he had light tippet, or he could have been spooled in a hurry.

That happened to me at Crane prairie reservoir in Oregon except it was a osprey. Peeled out about a 100 feet of line in 3 seconds before he let go. The fish was toast though. The talons had peeled the flesh inside out at each talon. I released the fish and he flopped around for 15 seconds before the osprey came back and got him for good. Pretty cool to see.

That's pretty cool.

I'm surprised that the eagle came in that close to a human to get the fish. Or maybe this is quite common and I'm just unaware??????

What an experience. He'll remember that moment well beyond having caught e fish itself.

Wow! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

I guess I'm the only one that finds this uncool. The angler looks to have "played" the fish for the eagle. If so, that's poor sportsman ethics.

Re: Fishes With Eagles - not a good thing

mk4 - you are absolutely right! he put the eagle in danger.

the guy hooks a fish and puts down the camera on the stripping mat to play the fish. then he notices the eagle and picks the camera up and stops playing the fish. it does look like he left the fish out there for the eagle to grab.

hopefully the eagle didn't eat the fly or the leader. if it was a weighted fly, hopefully it was tied without lead.

Years ago I was fishing out of my kayak at the main Isabella dam. Here comes the ranger boat ( the pilot was down below deck) and almost ran me down. A head pops up , and the ranger pulls around to tell me he darn near ran over me. NO S--T ! While we were discussing his error , an eagle swoops down and picks up a nice rainbow not very far from use. Too incidents in nearly two minutes.
