What flies should I bring?

Yo guys,

I will be fishing some rivers and streams up by Three Rivers & King's Canyon National Park this coming labor day.

I want to tie up my own fies.

What flies should I tie?

Can't go wrong with some b.h stone flys nymphs

General attractors should be all you need. Adams, EHC, Humpys, PT, Hare's Ears....etc. I would just take all the trout flies you have. Makeup a nice assortment of dries, nymphs, streamers, and you'll be good to go.

Look for little hatches here and there of a fragile yet sizable mayfly. It's cream to tan with an very long tail. I tie essentially a light tan parachute type dry in 14s. The fish will key in on these and suddenly switch of but it's always smart to have some handy. I see the spinners more than the duns so use a translucent/synthetic material for the wing. That aside, a 5" Circus Peanut is probably also good to have handy for those dark deep spots.

That's cool, haven't seen that before! I think SaltyFresh got things mixed up though... Three Rivers is on the Kaweah, not the Kings. To get to the upper Kings from there requires quite a bit of driving still. Still, they should fish somewhat similarly I would think if you fished down low. I think one could get away with dries all day and have a blast if you go up above the construction inside the park.

Is there construction on 198/General's Hwy? I checked CalTrans and they don't list any delays? Could it be they are just staggering the traffic to keep congestion down? BTW, going into the Park from Three Rivers you have to go from that entrance. The traffic can be really bad during the Summer, but by next weekend the crowds will be way down.

I *think* that Kings fly box is for a different section of the river, but certainly will crossover into the Park. And as Craig said, it's a relatively long drive to get there from Three Rivers, but if you want to see the canyon, worth the drive?

Lots of flies mentioned so far, and wouldn't argue with anyone. Some places require you to go through your fly boxes, but for the most part, tie something on that floats and have at it.

There is construction going up the hill on 198. They are repaving/ widening from Amphitheatre Point lookout on up about 3 miles I believe. You can pass at the top of every hr starting with the downhill traffic. Its been goin on since the beginning of last year..

There is some good fishing below the climb but you do have to work for them Dfg has not stocked the Kaweah river since 2001 so you wont see any baitfishing. Access to the river is scarce but you can find some really nice fish down there.

You can also hit the SF, pocket pools. It is a little closer and no traffic.
