Replacement ghost bag on a Brodin net

Postby Rob909 » August 27th, 2011, 9:47 am

Was wondering if anybody has replaced one of these?

I bought the bag for my Brodin Pro Cutthroat and was kind of "dry-running" it and the tabs on the top of the bag just don't make sense to me. They definitely don't hit every hole on the net and the Quicktime video on Brodin's website doesn't work.

I'm thinking about just cutting off the tabs which would essentially make a straight edge on the top of the bag that I could string around using every hole on the net.

This make sense to anybody? Let me know if you've done this or have any ideas.

Here's a link to what I'm talking about.....

I was going to buy one of those a few months ago to replace a string net I have on a wooden net, but the video didn't work then either, so I never bought it.

Same here. I was thinking of upgrading my old net. Never did get around to it. I do own a rubber bag net, but rarely use it.

By your description, I wonder if the rubber bag you ordered is designed to fit into every other hole. Do these pictures make any sense of that.

I have been wondering the same. I have the bag like you see in pictures 2 and 3. Picture 1 is a different style.

2 and 3 are definitely every other hole. It just looks odd to me. I found a page online where the guy cut off the tabs and strung around the top edge using every hole and it looks like you would expect a net to look.

At this point I think my options are either (1) every other hole with a single wrap around each tab since the spacing of the holes will not allow for every hole to be used and each tab to have 2 wraps, one on each end, or (2) cut the tabs off and string around the top edge using ever hole.

If I'd have known I was going to have this debate with myself for days over what to do I probably wouldn't have bought the darn thing :)

Simply put, the holes originally intended for a cotton net have no relevance whatsoever to the tabs on your clear rubber net. The tabs will give you more depth though(something severely lacking in almost any rubber net). I have seen those who simply cut off the tabs and its a done deal. That is my recommendation for you. I have a unique way of stringing the tabbed nets and it works well, but hole spacing is critical to my success.
Oh, and BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN!!! The string Brodin provides can easily cut through the rubber. Be especially careful not to allow the string to slide directly on the rubber while taught. (think about how braid can cut you easily when a large fish pulls drag) I like to use a larger diameter nylon string that pretty much eliminates this issue altogether.

Good luck!
