Hy all,
Son, wife and I want to go to the Grand Canyon the weekend before Thanksgiving...
Wanted to get some info on the area and some recommendations from those who've been!.
Lodging sight seeing etc. oh yea good FOOD! the last one is very important.
I would greatly appreciate any info and recommendations for locations and lodging.

My son is 3 months old.... Reasonable Lodging is very important. Thought of taking a sleeping bag and a pillow to sleep under the stars but the wife wouldn't have it with the son.

IMHO, staying anywhere in Tusayan, the gateway town, is over priced and a bit cheesy. I'd opt for Flagstaff, despite the drive. Several top notch brew pubs in town. In the park, the El Tovar serves up some amazing lunch and dinners. If you could pop to stay there, it's well worth it.

I am on a budget! I will check out Flagstaff. Sounds good to me. How about the fishing in that area? Is there anywhere to go and chase some trouts?
I just mapped the trip from there to Marble Canyon...(Lees Ferry) 2.5 hr. drive...

I can't speak to the fishing. I'd PM AZwanderings and pick his brain. There are decent motels on Lucky Lane in Flagstaff, just off the I-40. The extra benefit is there is a Cracker Barrel right there as well. Can't beat the food!

Quick note about Cracker Barrel restaurants....We are huge fans and will map our route when we drive across country to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at them. Great food....always clean restrooms (and in the same place at all stores) and they are always located where there is a clean, reasonable motel. Once you cross into AZ there are several.

Looking foreword to it! i am going to start booking motels. I will shoot AZwanderings and see if he can give me some ideas about the fishing.

The last time we went through Marble Canyon (08) we stopped at Lee's Ferry Anglers and ate at their lodge. Was great food and it's worth a try if going that way. I'm sure Terry and Wendy are still on top and lodging was clean and rustic. The other lodge was just as good but forget their name. 209er
