Hey all....

Hey all....

Postby sagebass » October 19th, 2011, 7:26 am

I'm new to this forum. I've been pretty active on the ultralight forum as well as the fiberglass fly rod forum. I am from central Illinois and I love tying flies and building rods when I am not out on the water.

I'm pretty excited about a purchase I made last night. I picked this up:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/130587109543?ss ... 1439.l2649

That brings my lineup to the following:

8'1" SPL 1wt. 3pc.
7'10" TXL-F 2wt. 4pc. (unbuilt)
7'10" Lemon Drop 3wt. 3pc. (in progress)
8'6" SLT 4wt. 4pc.
7'2" McFarland 5wt. 3pc.
9'0" SP 8wt. 3pc.
8'3" Redington 9wt. 4pc.

I am debating on whether to finish out the TXL-F or sell the blank as it seems like it may be too fast for my taste. I also have a McFarland 3wt. 6'9" 3pc. yellow glass blank that I may be building for a friend of mine....and I just finished building this rod for a forum member on the fiberglass fly rod forum. It is a McFarland 7'6" 5wt. 3pc.

Welcome to the forum. It looks like your rod building skills are top-notch. There are some great builders on this site as well. I’m surprised that you were able to get the Sage SLT for the price you paid. I picked up a new SLT 8’9” 3 wt when they were being discontinued, they are great rods.

Wanderingblues: I recognized both you and Sasha from the ultralight forum. By the way, I found a TXL 0wt. brand new on clearance for $270 free shipping. I am trying to unload my TXL-F 2wt. blank to afford the 0wt.

Everyone else: Thanks for the comments. I look forward to future posts on this forum. It seems like a well rounded group of fisherman!

Western Coachman:

I was asking $215 shipped on the fiberglass and ultralight forums. I just lowered the price to $200 shipped to the lower 48 today. I had one guy interested in the blank and he asked that I do a CCS test for the ERN. I just finished that test and determined that it has an ERN of 2.9. That was a little lighter than I thought it would be, so I am starting to think the recovery speed is just very quick which gives the rod an impression of being "stiffer" than it really is. I keep going back and forth on whether to build it out as I have an awesome down locking bronzed seat with a koa insert and I have a nice grip that I turned for it. I also have some Tom Moran bronzed snakes I was planning on using. I just needed a few more guides and a tip top.
