Hi everyone and happy new year.
I'm new to the site and just feeling my way around. The start of my fishing journey was as a kid in Legg Lake and Puddingstone. My dad would drop me off, ussually alone, on the way to work. I would pack a lunch or buy a burger and soda at the snack bar, and fish from morning to evening. Soon after, I started spending a couple of weeks during summer vacation in Long Beach with my great uncle fishing Belmont Pier. My parents didn't get my budding obsession, but did the best they could to understand; even today, some forty years later! My fishing went from bait and lures to strickly lures. I fished mostly local (so cal) waters until I got my drivers licsence. Soon after, the Sierras and beyond was my escape.
I bought my first flyrod at Faye"s flyshop in no cal and was hooked back in the eighties. I was living in Reno at the time and cut my teeth in places like Manzanita Lake, Truckee River, Pyramid Lake, Davis and Frenchmans Lakes. I built my first rod at the Reno Flyshop, an 8wt RPL for Pyramid. Those were the days...
Form Reno, I moved to Anchorage and things got reelly wild. Silvers in the surf, Kings in the sloughs, Rainbows on big streamers down to tiny glo bugs.
A short stay in S Carolina I occassionally fished for all warmwater critters.
About five or six years(maybe more) has passed and I did very little of anything, and I moved back to so cal (2003)and left all my fly gear in storage except for a 5wt. St Croix my 1st ex wife had built for me, and I began to reconnect with the sport (passion?). Needless to say that flyfishing and being "out there" fills that void like never before.
Looking forward to another great year!
Regards,
Rey
