Lower Owens Flow.

Postby fly addict » November 17th, 2011, 10:23 am

I notice the the DWP has dropped the flows from 600 CFS to 500 CFS in the last few days. I hope this is the beginning of the end of the high flows for the season. Can we be fishing in December on the Lower Owens, lets hope so! Papa Jon, let us know if you see any black-out helicopters flying around. ;)

Beginning of December is when it will be good to go, from what I've heard. In the mean time, the upper is where to be, but the trick is you have to know WHERE (really important) and HOW. Take advantage of that with David right now, because he's got WHERE and HOW dialed in and you'll have multiple attempts at trophy sized trout. I'm just mad that I can't get up there soon to take advantage of it. Make sure to pinch those barbs! DFG is out and ticketing.

GOOD!
I fish for my sanity. If I catch it, should I still practice catch and release?

409 as I post this on Friday the 18th. I bet it will be 250 cfs by Thanksgiving. I better start tying a few BWOs and get ready for a trip.

400... Who's willing to donate to sending Papa on a vacation far away so the flows will continue to drop?

So, at 300, is it worth a long run? I waded at 350 on Fathers Day and it stunk.

Personally I like it at 250 cfs or less. I can wade most sections of the river I like to fish at those flows. You won’t be able to go anywhere you want and you need to be careful. The water may still be cloudy as the flows drop for a few days, and the fish may be a little hard to find, but this is better than having to wait till January. It is at 325 as of today, and I still think it will be 250 or less by Thursday.
