Revivex

Postby strohble » January 11th, 2012, 3:59 pm

Has anyone used Revivex on their waders? It's a treatment to re-waterproof gore-tex and prolong the life of waders or waterproof outer wear. I just applied it to my waders and stuck them in the dryer on low medium (the spray is a heat treatment), I'm a little torn though because it clearly states inside my waders to never put them in the dryer. I hope this works, $500.00 waders don't come easy. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated--strohble

I have always used Nikwax because of the dryer issue. It works on Gore-tex and Simms waders just fine. I hope your waders didn't shrink. ;)

Hey Eric,

I've used Revivex and Nikwax a few times on my old, Simms Guide(original models). I only did the dryer method once, but it didn't seem to hurt the waders any. My opinion on Revivex, it works great(beads water)for a while, but doesn't last very long. Depending on how long/often you fish, you'll need to re-treat them if you want that water beading on the outside. And FWIW, my old waders have seen a LOT of use. Newer waders might respond differently. I've never used Revivex, or Nikwax on my newer pairs of waders.

Cool. Thanks for the info guys. It seems to have worked out fine, I guess I'll see when I'm in the water.

It does help if you clean your waders before you treat them with a waterproofing product. I have been useing Woolite for years. Before your waders dry apply the Nikwax.

I've used Revivex before on my Simms gore-tex waders, and similar to other experiences it seems to have only worked for a little while... the 'beading' and water resistance' didn't stay for much more than one or two outings after treatment.

Also, I'm not sure where I saw it, but somoene (possibly Simms) advises not to throw your waders into the dryer because it damages the neoprene booties and the seam between the booties and the wader fabric. They advise using a hair dryer to set the Revivex on the wader. It took me over an hour to do this, and given the fact that the treatment doesn't last too long, I haven't treated my waders since.

one of the things with Gortex is it is a layered material. There is a thin membrane between 2 layers of material that is the actual waterproofing/ breathing material. the other 2 layers are what protects the membrane. I would be very careful with putting it in the dryer. for those of you who don't know alot about materials here is a great site that can help you understand some of it. Even though the site is a diving site it does help you understand some of the process of the materials.

I used to work in their R&D department when we were experimentation with gortex material.
