I may have asked before, but I can't remember, so here goes again. With my b-day just passing I am looking for my present. I need a new pair of waders. I have been looking at the Reddington sonic waders, and the Simms Headwaters. I can't spend much more than these, $300.00 range. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with them. The Redingtons are the ones I am most interested in. Also, I know there are some shops that ya'll have had good luck with, can you give me some suggestions in that Dept. too. Thanks.

I personally haven't tried the redington brand but I like most everything I buy from Simms. One pair of waders I've had for about 10 years or so and every couple of years I would return them back to Simms and for around 30 dollars they would fix all the leaks and put on a new pair of the neoprene booties, felt like new waders! Can't beat that. Just great customer service.

By the way I've used Simms waders for 20+ years and never been disappointed. I had a pair I bought about 9 years ago. They were literally brand spanking new. I waded into the river only to find the last flood had deposited a nice new string of barbed wire just below what I could see. It cut a 1 1/2" gash in my brand new waders that had not been wet for 2 minutes. I sent them back to Simms and they repaired them for free. Got ot love that!

I've always worn Simms, but I hear nothing but great about the Reds'. Like mentioned go check them out, try them on, look carefully at the seams and the pockets, the strap configuration and the gravel guards. Just really take your time. If you can look at them side by side that is the best.

Hey thanks for all of the feedback. Customer service is paramount in my book. Knowing that everything is eventually going to wear out or break, I want to be taken care of when it does. Now ya'll got me leaning towards the Simms. I have been looking at the Headwaters; one because they are the right price and two because they are made right here in the good 'ol U.S.A.

PS: I love Sierra Trading Post. I just recieved an order from them this week. That place has saved me a ton 'o money.

I will have Redington waders up on the STM Online Store within the next week or so. In the mean time, call David at the shop and pick his brain. He told me he's really impressed with the Redington stuff this year, but that's the extent that I know. yeah, I checked his website and all he had was the Simms, so I will give him a call. If I get some waders from him that means an automatic trip up there to pick them up...bonus!

I'd agree with the good things about Simms. I have a old pair that has MANY pinhole repairs. Even though they may not be as breathable because of all the Aquaseal spots, the seams and booties are holding up just fine. One thing to be aware of. Some of the Simms waders are cut a little tight in the calf area.

Stay away from Hodgmans.... I've had bad experiences with them, as well as a friend.... I have a pair of Simms, I like them they work well. I have some issues with small holes, but thats from use, wear and tear I think. I have heard good things about the Redington waders.... I think you'll be good with either one.

See which fit's better and go with it.

I switched over from Orvis to the Simms Headwater and love how light they are. Also the bootfoot is not too big so it fits really well, no bunch up in the toe or heel. I also got the Headwater boots and feel 20lbs lighter with both on. LOL

I just got a pair of the Redington wading pants for a $100. and tried them out, so far they seem to be good. time will tell.
