New Style Magnetic Net Release Prototype-Your Thoughts?

In anticipation of The Fly Fishing Show in Pleasanton where I will be exhibiting I wanted to have a nice leatehr net release to show. I am considering having these made (the leather part anyways), and selling them on my site. Anyone care to weigh your opinion on them good bad or otherwise? I would like to hear anything any feedback. The wooden vest part of the mag will be matched to the net (or not if the client doesn't want to.)

The leather will shrink some, tho not sure how much yet. I am having another proto made with a slot so that it is adjustable for different hoops. The magnet is held to the leather by a copper rivet. The Chicago * that affixes the leather to the net is brass.

I'm trying to be a bit more classy that those which use zip ties to attach to the hoop.

It looks nice, but how would the leather hold up to repeated soaking? Leather does not like that after all. I'd be worried it would rot. There may be a way around that issue. I don't know. Just asking.

I like the idea of a rivet or * to hold the magnet in place as I have seen glues fail too often. Especially with todays strong rare earth magnets (neodymium). I've got magnetic net minders on each of my measure nets and while the magnets have stayed in place so far, it is something I check after each trip while cleaning debris from the magnetic surface. I have had neodymium magnets pull out of glued settings in other uses.

Are you still doing paracord with snake knot lanyards or moving away from that?

I like this concept and the fastener as well (S shaped)
#1. how long until the leather dries out or tears from use.
#2. Does the fastener swivel freely
#3. instead of having the leather strap to hold the magnet, why not mount the magnet into the butt of the net.

Just my thoughts on a great idea.

Pretty catchy, though the leather may be subject to conditions that will harm it.

It may be a logistical/design nightmare, but have you considered incorporating the magnet into the hoop?
I dont like the idea of having the magnet in the net handle. I hang my net by the hoop on a nylon web strap similar to what your showing. The carbiner and male magnet sit at the back of my collar. This puts the handle low enough that I don't hurt my shoulders (Left 2x and Right 1X dislocated) grabbing it.

Agreed that the leather is iffy over a long period of time, though I have no idea HOW long that is. Years? Decades? There is a guy making leather releases already, so it can't be THAT bad. I, too, had magnets that were epoxied fail in the field. that's no fun as there is no way to fix it until you get back home.
I am still doing the snakeknot lanyard unless otherwise requested, but it seems to be a popular facet of my nets.

Fflutterfly, #1,only testing will tell.#2, no, but thats not a bad idea. Not sure if it's all that necessary as the 2 magnets will swivel, by nature, on their two flat faces. #3Most people like the net to hang handle down, and this whole idea is one of my possible solutions to scratch that itch.

Wade, I aready have that but am looking for a different option. I don't care for how iron will be attracted to the mag, then get smashed into the rim of the net and stains it. Also, I had one issue where a client stores his rain gear in his backpack which causes teh net to cantilever out to the rear. Beacause this fixed magnet in the hoop doesn't move, lever action more easily removes the net accidently. that is not a good thing. In my research, a magnet that can articulate works best. I am just looking for something a little less permanent than what I have been doing(shown below).

Personal opinion: The leather will hold up for years. Yes it will probably get stiff and shrink a bit. I would rather see the leather on a beautiful net than a piece of nylon strap. Plus, it's not like it will under water for hours on end.

I have a leather pouch I made for the pliers I use in the saltwater. Its has seen tons of use, in the ocean, and is still alive and kicking.
