How not to catch and release!

I'm with Luc on this one, they've been told this stuff before and don't want to hear it. Save your energy and pray some day someone holds those guys underwater for a really long time to take a nice underwater picture, then puts them back on the bank to walk away and be free again.

Well, clearly, we have no ground to stand on because our 'post counts' are not in the low hundreds and we don't frequent challenging locales like Corona Lakes, SARL, or others. Plus, that one kid, Matt, lives in Chino. All of us in the Inland Empire know that Chino trumps all.... :bananadance:

It's quite the special place. The "guide" Mundo, is a part timer who charges full time rates. He used to have his company name as his screen name and would post pictures of his sports doing the arms forward, grip and grin shots and make it sound like he was just out fishing with a bud. Seems the administrators finally clamped down on his free advertising and I guess he was too cheap to buy a sponsorship. He charges $400 for a full day on the water and he's happy to take you bait fishing as well.

That's why he's posting these shots (other then to * people off)....he's trying to drum up some guide business.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Seems this guys is and has been set in his ways for a long time now. I agree with Wildman, he is probably trying to drum up some business. It's a sad way of doing business.

Eh,
It' funny how difensive people get...maybe they realize their wrong and are just to proud to admit it and will secretly abide by proper teqniques....

Just in case he dosent or they don't. I took a different aproach and posted in a not so aggressive way. Let's hope it helps.

Man last time this Cappin Crunch and his shananigans rose my blood pressure... I thought i'd do it in a mild way this time.

I saw your post, and I added my response to why I called out Mr. Guide and posted a few links to how to properly release fish to fight another day. I’m pretty sure the maroons on that site still won’t get it, but maybe it might help a few newbies. If nothing else it exposes the guide for his lack of interest in insuring the survival of the fish.

I give you credit for trying. You should have seen the look on the 2 guys faces this past weekend as they strolled into my local with Uglystix and a net so big you could land tuna in it. By the time it was over they were 'yes sirring' up one side and down the other. Maybe the FNN guys could use some of that love.....

You got those folks all in a conniption fit over on FNN. Classic, especially the overwhelming use of poor spelling and bad grammar.

Oooooo he is a guide and knows all. According to himself and his online henchmen. Never understood why a lot of fly fishermen seem to suck guide's c*cks. Seriously I know some and guess what. They all are mortals and not some sort of god.

lucfish wrote:Just a quick comment. That guide has been doing this sort of things for years. He's also "pushed" people out of a productive spot, I have first hand knowledge of this. The thing is he thinks it's OK and right to do this. Fact is your not going to change him and it just gets your blood boiling for something you can't do anything about. We can try to educate but if the person doesn't want to listen there isn't a damm thing you can do about it. That's why I think there should be a closed season on the EW when the flows are down. Give the fish a chance. Sometimes you have to pick your fights and I for one cannot stress out everytime an idiot is being who they are. Life's too short.

Hey Luc,

Is this one of those guides you were talking about?

These type of posts really used to get to me. I think I've become numb to a lot of it.

...........but I registered on that site just so I can post a reply!!!  They have a probationary period, so I wasn't allowed to post. :? Probably for the best that I don't. ;)

Whats wrong with useing a big net to land big fish? Maybe I dont understand..Not being argumentetive..just wondering. I dont bait fish..I fly fish 90% of the time, however I still enjoy customizing rapalas and chuckin em for big trout..Is that concidered bad in the C&R communities? Like I said..Just seeking knowledge and not trying to pick a fight..I'm Not one of those lip rippers on FNN who dont care about trout..I C&R everything and dont mishandle fish..Tie my own flies , use only barbless hooks etc...

Nothing wrong at all, other than it's a precursor to illegitimate activities. A typical trout on that watershed is an 6-8" fish. The net was a 30" with a 3' pole. Unfortunately, we have confronted situations where folks are 'herding' the fish in order to scoop. After a quick check and having them pinch down the barbs on their lures, they went on their way. It was their 1st time up and they were not aware of the special regs. BTW, to the learned, it was the old article on this watershed promising 24" browns that brought them up. They are 40 years too late....

As to the rest, there's nothing wrong with customizing some lures, particularly if you have to troll deep for lunker browns. I built my own spinners from scratch for years before taking a hand at flyfishing. When I'm off-shore chasing tuna, I still fling iron and bait. So, I don't have an issue with anyone doing their own thing, as long as it's legal.

Welcome to the forum. We are not crazed zealots, but we do take protecting the resource seriously. There's just too much pressure and too many folks willing to be unethical not to take a stand from time to time. I have that same attitude whether I'm throwing a size #20 midge at a brown or a race horse sardine at a yellowfin.

Tight Lines!
