Most surf fish are very hardy, especially beach dwellers. Surf perch even give live birth in the surf zone, how's that for a newborn's welcome to the world. As long as you get them back quickly, I doubt any harm comes to the perch. Of course, mountain pitching them can't be good, so just slip them back in gently.
