Removing a Hook

I know that we usually fish barbless, but here's a good hook removal video that may come in handy sometimes. Yikes, can't believe he demoed that (twice).

Here's another.

I was conventional bass fishing the Delta last year, and stuck myself real good with a crankbait. I went to grab a smallish bass and it slipped out of my hands. The front treble hook drove into my middle finger tip. The fish was still on the crankbait and was flopping around, driving the hook all the way to the bend. I got control of the fish, and got it off the lure. I thought the best course of action was to remove the hook from the lure, so we could get a straight shot at yanking it out.....also not get hooked by the back hook. Only problem was, stabilizing the hook when my buddy went to cut it free from the lure. That HURT like #&%@!*. Once we got the hook free, we did the above method....my buddy had never done it, so I had to coach him. Both videos say how pain free it is, and in most cases it is. I gotta say, after removing that one in my finger tip, I was bent over in pain. Guess there are a lot of nerves in that area.

Ouch, Brian! Yeah, I've read that fingertips have something like 2000-2500 nerve endings per square centimeter. That's a lot of pain impulses. There's a reason they use the arm for these videos.
