NIMBY

Postby WanderingBlues » March 13th, 2012, 1:35 pm

Not In My Back Yard.....

Several of you know that I've been locked up with a developer who bulldozed the meadow and stream behind my house and is now building 6 bedroom residential sober living homes literally, in my backyard. So far he's started 4 homes with the closest being less than 50' off my back deck. Been working with DFG on the streambed alteration, but little is being done.

Channel 7 came up today and shot some footage and interviewed my wife. As you all know, I'm fat, bald, and repulsive, so they stuck with her. Any how it's on the 4PM Channel 7 LA news today. Hopefully.

It would be nice if something came of it. Is channel 7 the ABC station? Do you know the call letters (KCBS, KCAL, etc?)

It's KABC. I'm pessimistic anymore. This guys stands to make way too much money to let a little neighborhood stop him. Still, I'm fighting til the end using CEQA and other environmental laws. Ultimately, though, it's looking bleak as the law allows for 6 bed or less drug rehabs to exist in residential neighborhoods under ADA protection. Newport Beach has spent millions fighting the same. I squandered my millions on cheap flies and expensive waders.....

If it is the ABC station in LA it is KABC or ABC for short, Eyewitness News. I’ll have to check it out. Curtis, it sounds like you have your work cut out for you on this problem, good luck.

That really bites. One thing you should know though, once permits are issued and work has begun, it is really really difficult that anyone could stop work progress on the project unfortunately. Did they do a public meeting before permits were issued?
Here they have to send notice to any neighbor commercial or residential within a 500' radius for a formal board meeting for neighbors weather it's for or against new devlelopment to speak up. Once that is done and they get their permits, it's pretty much an uphill battle to stop it and I really hate to say it. It is probably going to continue.
Now the news will help a lot. I know that for a fact. With pressure like that they will be very uncomfortable during their building process.

Good luck I hope you're successful.

Watching now, but the teaser said, "Coming up, the loophole that allows this to happen." Doesn't look good based on that. :( Waiting for the story...

Edit: they didn't even mention the illegal stream damage/removal (?) Construction looks to be pretty far along, bummer. :(

I missed it but have it taped. At least you could see what they did to the meadow. BTW. my Assemblyman called. He called DFG and the are sending a Warden out tomorrow. He did not have permission to break more ground.

Saw the interview and figured it was your house. It was a good interview and showed the frustration of county officials as well. You sure are involving the right folks.

Sorry you folks are going through that nonsense. Your wife came across good in the interview and summed it up perfect, "it's pathetic."

Here's the link... Like my wife said, Pathetic.....

Good interview. I am truly sorry that this is happening in your "backyard". That one house is very close to yours. I hope they don't put another right behind your deck. That would suck royally. It is truly a frustrating experience.

It was a good interview though. She was direct and to the point.
