Smashed Hackle!!!

Isn't the point of having hackle to simulate legs of an insect and provide points for surface tension/floatation?

Foam fly boxes seem to flatten the underside of hackle dry flies. Am I over-thinking it or are compartmentalized fly boxes the solution?

I use compartmentalized boxws for hackled flies. Para's and nymphs go into the foam ones.
