Anybody know anything about the Sage LL series rods.

I'm looking at a 7'6" 2 wt.

IMHO
They are amazing.
There's a whole cult of guys who seek these out and for a good reason: stellar performance.
I've used a few and they all were great dry fly rods.
Keep us posted!

i guess im a bad caster because all the great casters i know here love them...i thought they were very soft rods..way too parabolic for me, boo is fast compared to the LL rods i have tried... I have a friend who has 3 of them and he loves em... but i like a little more kick even in a light rod...the cult of the LL's swear by them.

I have a Sage LL 389, too. It's my go-to rod for everywhere. I'm not a big river fisherman...I like fishing dries on smaller rivers and streams. Yes, its a medium/slow action rod...very easy to cast and very forgiving. I built it in 1989 or 1990.

Sounds to me that it resembles the glass type rods then. Also read online after seeing this post that it is very similar to the Winston VT series. Interesting. Looks to be a good one.

From my limited time with a 389, I wouldn't say it casts like glass. Feels like a medium action graphite. I very sweet, medium action graphite. Granted, I haven't cast a ton of glass and bamboo, but to me, the LL sits somewhere in the graphite range of actions. Not nearly as slow as the slower glass or bamboo rods I've had the pleasure of casting. Not even the slowest action graphite.

I wish I owned a few.

Dr. Creek would be a good guy to hit up. I think he has a secret store of LL, SPL, and all the classic ultralight Sage's.

Thanks for your input.

I just picked it up. 279LL Sage

It was on Craiglist at a local pawn shop.

The tube has Bob Marriots label on it so it was purchased locally. Looks to be barely used, no scratches, cork is clean etc.

I was kind of hoping that the warranty card would be hiding in the tube but no such luck.

I'll need to go reel hunting before I can use it.

Mind sharing what you paid for it? Pm if you don't want the whole world to know. ;)

I have a 379 and love that little guy. Have fished YNP several times with it, the San Juan, among other tailwaters. Not great in big water, but awesome on slower water. I have broken the tip 3 times now, scared to break it again and have them send me something else! I bought mine in 1997 in celebration of Arizona's victory over Kentucky in the NCAA finals. Paired it with a Lamson 1.5, still use both.

A lot of interest in the price of the LL.

I paid $160.00 at a local pawn shop.

I think I did alright, I checked ebay and they looked to be going for $300+

You did very good.

I saw that ad on CL. I didn't jump on it because I have one. I bought it for $50 at a garage sale. It had a broken ferrel, so I sent it to Sage, and they told me they don't carry graphite ll blanks anymore so I would have to buy a graphite lll blank for $175 out the door. This was 2009. So now I have $225 invested in it, but then I have seen them go for as much as $400. Prices for them fluxuates seasonally on eBay. I am currently watching a 379-2 LL on eBay that's over $200 right now.
I have the 389-4 and love it love it love it. Nobody can use it, cast it, fish it, play with it, or look at it funny. It's mine, get your own. :P
