how do I counterbalance the rod for a lighter reel?

For topics that don't seem to have a home elsewhere.

how do I counterbalance the rod for a lighter reel?

Postby AZURE » June 6th, 2012, 11:31 pm

is this the right area for this question?

I got a new reel that is lighter than the current reel that is on the rod. the rod has a hard foamy fighting butt. right now the rod feels heavier up front. how do I weigh the rear of the rod?

I vaguely remember reading something about adding weights. but how and what kind? I need it to be modular so I can remove it when I allow others to use it, put the old reel back on ....etc.

thanks

If you have an extra spool you could try adding lead core line under your backing.

I fish for my sanity. If I catch it, should I still practice catch and release?

hmmm, thanks wade and FA

that gave me a few ideas. I might be able to wrap the heaviest shooting head line around the butt.

If I get desperate, I might go ghetto style and duct tape quarters to the butt tip. ugly and embarrassing, but should work.

you can get lead tape at golf pro shops or tennis shops. it's used to weight club heads for golf and tennis rackets. they usually have adhesive backing and come ½" wide. years ago people used it for weighted underbodies for zonkers and streamers.

does it feel tip heavy as you wiggle it on the lawn without fly line out or under fishing conditions?

it's tip heavy still with reel and line. it just feels unbalanced. I would prefer a weight bias towards the butt end.
