Adios California!

Postby ptflashback » June 23rd, 2012, 7:56 am

Well, the Army is shipping me and the family to Newport News, Virginia. Prior to departure, I wanted to take a second to publicly thank Wanderingblues and the members of this board for the fellowship over the past two years.

Many posters have rightfully described fly fishing as a journey and I feel the same about my days here. I regretfully only had the opportunity to meet Wanderingblues, Wildman, and Treecatcher, but I gained a wealth of knowledge from the routine contributors on this forum. I sincerely thank each of you and wish you uncrowded waters and tight lines.

WB, thanks for the companionship and for sharing the California hidden gems. You are a steward of this pastime, a renaissance man, and a gentlemen. I'll keep in touch and hope that our paths cross again. :grouphug:

Dave how fortuitous it was to have worn my Sigma Chi t-shirt that morning. It was my honor to have shared some water, beer, good food, and kinship with you. Hopefully we made your high desert experience a bit more bearable.

I also appreciate the mentoring you gave Kyle and your insight into military life. It's looking as though he will still join, though he will most likely be heading to Cal Maritime Academy for a degree in Global Studies/Maritme Law before he tries OCS.

I hope the transfer is keeping you close to home and out of harms way. Watch out for all the Squids that inhabit Newport News..... A Navy town?

Post up some stuff from that part of the world and my best to your wife & son,
Curtis

Captain Dave-
What a pleasure and honor to fish with you. As an old Army guy, I was proud of the work you did at the training center getting the troops ready for what faced them overseas and helping to bring them home safe. We did enjoy some quality time on the water and I still can picture you pulling fish out of holes that I never would have tried with your nymphs. My understanding is that you will have both the opportunity for quality salt fishing but fresh water as well with a number of species we don't see here.

Stay safe....take care of your troopers and let us know what you find out there,

Jim

Dave, good luck back there, and thank you for your service to this great country. BTW, just because you are 3K miles away, you are still only a few clicks away to post! :bananadance: We'll relish hearing and seeing your attempts at fishing the East Coast. N. Carolina has some good trout fishing!
Best of luck friend.

Dave, my son, Derek Kern, is in the Air Force stationed at Langley AFB Hampton. He's an Emergency Room Tech at the base hospital. He's fairly new to fly fishing. His son goes to daycare at the Army Base in Newport News, is that where you're going? If you're in that area, stop in & say Hi. He's been wanting to check out the fly fishing in that area. Have a safe trip. Keith <>< <>< <><

I am glad you had a great time here in So Cal and wish you and the family the best.
