"Orvis announced it would start selling rods, line, and flies made by Tenkara USA and helping to promote the Japanese method of fly-fishing."

Carry on.

Irrespective of whether Orvis promotes or sells Tenkara, I'll probably give it a try one day. I've only been FF'ing just over a year, and I still enjoy throwing fly line around... unless I'm shortline nymphing, then plucking and chucking tungsten at the end of mono is perfectly fine, too.

Yeah, I saw this news on the TUSA forum the other day. You should definitely give it a try some time. In the right waters it's a great way to fish. Casting dries in close for extremely accurate and delicate presentations or fishing wet at longer distances. I've been fly fishing for a little over five years and added my first tenkara rod almost two years ago.
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

Just read a great article in CA FF about Tenkara - looks like I'll be getting ANOTHER piece of equipment I swore I'd never get (like the Switch and Spey rods I now use in the surf...) I'ts only a mild addiction.... honest

When I heard this I logged onto Orvis and wasn't able to find it until I did a search using "tenkara". My understanding is that Daniel fished with Tom Rosenbauer, marketing director for Orivis, and said Tom understands the concept and loved fishing with the rod he used.

I think it's going to be a real boom for Tenkara USA and the Japanese style of fishing for trout in small mountain streams. I read that Orvis is even going to promote the one fly concept using traditional flies.
