Might be just me but something could be fishy at our favorite poaching site

The guy is selling too much high end stuff just to be cleaning out the closet and its in too nice of condition

That's a BOATLOAD of gear. He's either getting out of fishing due to a limiting injury or illness, or he needs fast money for another toy - or a divorce attorney. At least he didn't say "CASH ONLY" and "WILL MEET IN THE ALLEY AT 4TH & BROADWAY AT MIDNIGHT" - both "red flags."

I spoke with the shop owner and sent him the URL's for the posts in questions. Not the place to fence that kind of high end gear.

wasn't the Fisherman's Spot broken into a couple of years ago? I looked at the profile of the guy selling all that stuff, and it looks like he's from the - South Bay area of Los Angeles.

Just sent them a email with the same information. To a patient thief....they might think two years would be enough time for things to blow over. The guy changed his story twice on why he had to sell. He also had a $2500 Dave Scadden boat for sale (in the box of course but no paperwork). Hope some one nails his butt.

Some guys need to have new and the latest gear. I know some guys on here probably buy gear they hardly ever use. Just like I'm sure there are guys who probably only have one or two rigs. I used to have about twenty saltwater rigs, some I used all the time, others hardly got used.

If these were stolen the guy would not have the rod tubes or rod socks, especially if this was a smash and grab.

It sounds like the guy is going through some tough times, money is more important to him than fly fishing at the present time. I think the guy just needs the cash.

Hopefully it's not the gear that was stolen from the Spot, and it's just the guy selling his gear 'cause of hard times.

I sent the link to Ken. He's going to take a look. I noticed in his profile he only posted 9 times and all in the classifieds section of the forum.

He also listed a $3500 Dave Scradden Pontoon boat with all the whistles for 2000....never used and in the box. Supposedly he has been out of work since last Dec but also stated in one of the posts just didn't have any time to use.

My Bravo Sierra meter went off with all bells and whistles ringing when I read the list and what was and what wasn't listed with the equipment and the way he described them. I'm betting he will come up dirty.

I agree Jim. Very fishy if you ask me. Pun intended. ;) And who would buy a $3500 boat and not use it once? Come on!

This is the list of what was stolen from The Fisherman's Spot. This list was posted up on June 22, 2009 on the TFS blog. Check the serial numbers and make the comparisons for yourself guys. We should all give someone the benefit of the doubt before there is any finger pointing or accusation. If this was the 1800's this poor guy would have been hanging from the gallows pole... :oo:

What a witch-hunt we have going on! Thieves aren't patient, 99.9% of thieves would have tried to pawn them within the same week!!! I agree with Benny, give him the benefit of the doubt.

Let's not kill the horse while pulling the cart! Benny posted the list. If this guy has 25% of those items I'd be down there looking at the stuff if I owned a shop that had theft. Do you remember a shop owner who "supposedly" broke into his own shop, "stole" a bunch of stuff and skipped town about three weeks after the robbery? Gossip alert!!! I believe he even left his horde of kids and wife behind or at least for a while. Or this guy selling the stuff can be honest, out of work (look at the times) and really needs to sell. Two other shops that were broken recently into were also notified ...one in Washington State. One of them had 6 items stolen that was on the list. If nothing comes of it...I'll share that here.

Gossip? ....Witch Hunt? Maybe. I worked for 34 years on some pretty mean streets. Where I live the break in and burglary rate has quintupled in the past five years. We never had a crime problem in the 40 years I've lived here. The Sheriff attributes it to dopers stealing to buy Herion or Meth. They are coming from some pretty far distances. The tweakers are pulling into foreclosed homes and stripping them overnight of anything that can be redeemed leaving a wreck that is an invitation to more derelicts squatting. We've had two cabins razed in our canyon just this year. I have a pretty low tolerance for thieves.

My next question....if the FNN poster had come on this forum and posted the identical post in the same manner... would any red flags have popped up?

Unskunkable is checking around as well. He has an idea of who the guy might be and says it may be legit. He'll be following up on it.

Anyone posting a 1st post on any board (even FNN) with that amount of schwag to move is going to get the "what for" from the community. I've dinged or deleted folks who have come here just to sale as it protects the quality of the site.
