didnt someone get robbed a while ago?

Certainly the alarm sounds when I read that, but.......... It's possible, but not typical, that thieves are this educated about the stuff they steal. This person knows some info about the/his gear, that even your avid fly fisher may not know. Almost all of it is high end gear too. Not your typical misc stuff you'd see on a smash and grab, store robbery. This is not to say it's a legit sale, but if not, this guy has educated himself, AND has fly fishing experience.

Nothing wrong with being cautious and informing small business owners who have been theft victims of this guys for sale ads. No names were mentioned and no one was harmed. That's how most burglary crimes get solved, by someone giving information and pointing law enforcement in the right direction. He may be legit, or he may not be legit, we just don't know at this stage.

You know....some feelers are going out right now to see if this is legit or not. If it is legit, I will personally invite him to post here with pictures and backstories on all the equipment. I'll even buy something. I'm hoping I'll get that chance.

What a coencidence, it looks fishy yet may be legit. I also agree that thieves dump the stuff asap. Pawning is a good option but also on Craigs List etc. I have a hard time thinking that it's stolen because of that.I hope it's legit. Someone should offer to buy one or two of the items and share the cereal #'s with the shops. Easiest way to figure it out I think.
I would but am tight on cash right now or I would jump on it. If it's stolen I would know who and what from where and report it. If not, some of those items are pretty attractive and I think it's a deal.

I do hope it's not stolen though

By the way. On a bass fishing site I read, someone had most of his fishing gear stolen from his garage. Shortly after that, a not so local shop had someone come in and try and sell some of his gear. The shop read the post from the owner, and contacted him. About the same time, someone was trying to sell more of his gear on Craigslist. The owner was notified, and he notified the police. Not sure how it all played out, but getting the word out does work.

Someone please keep us all informed. I hope this is just a need for cash for some reason. But that's some prime gear. If it was acquired legitimately, then he poured some serious cash down the drain to get it. Hope he's legit - for his sake.

Seriously, about how many hundreds or thousands of rods & reels are sold annually? Some guys have the scratch to blow on nice toys, others on the other hand are barely getting by living check to check and have a hard time buying one decent setup.

How many people on here have more than one of the items on that list posted up? I have some, four of the Galvan reels and three of the TFO rods. That's seven items I could put up for sale here. Does this make me suspect if I try and sell them at low price? We don't know him so he's suspect? Even if the items weren't on the list I posted up. Oh wait, maybe the guy in question flew or drove out to another state and committed the crime and decide to use some of the gear and then sell it. I'm wondering if he had the time to take the Scadden boat as well. He likely was pushing a shopping cart to load up all this stolen gear. Not likely..

I have fly fished with members of this and other forums, and I have fished with guys who will never post on a forum. Some guys have really expensive gear and lots of it, others have gear I wouldn't consider great but they get by with what they have and it's their only setup. Just because a guy is getting rid of some nice quality gear for some quick cash does not make it stolen. I just sold a VHF radio on ebay for $127, it was like new and I paid nearly $250 and statred the bidding at 99 cents.

I have nine Greys fly boxes left from when I was hosting the fly box giveaway for the swap and the photo contest. Am I suspect for giving the fly boxes away? Where did I get them? I have given away a few and still have nine. I bought them all from Sport Chalet just to give them away to my online friends.

Give the guy the benefit of the doubt, and don't be to surprised if it's a someone you or somebody you know has fished with.

Respectfully, why all the hostility? Can't get mad because some folks here did their due diligence and alerted certain shops about the mass sale - and I would have done the same thing had I remembered which shops got hit... so what? Does that mean they are gunning for him? Of course not. I didn't read one post where someone had already convicted the guy of having hot gear.

You may not like what was said or HOW it was said, but I'll jump on Jim's side here. I guess you have to have a level head - and not have that head buried in the sand, for starters. Being badged doesn't help us because being in that position, we're constantly confronted with reality - and we don't have the luxury of pretending it's not happening. And the reality of it is, that's ALOT of prime gear. And that reality also says that the odds are not in his favor, and I agree. I hope he just has ALOT of gear he's trying to unload because he's cash-strapped. But still, no one has convicted the guy - we're just placing our bets - and it's okay to do that.

I'm trying to put into perspective how silly it is when you think about how much gear is sold annually. That's why I asked "How many people on here have more than one of the items on that list posted up?" I have seven of those items. How many do you have?

How would anyone like it if they were down on their luck and had to sell all off your gear for dirt cheap? We never posted on this board or any board for that matter. We're trying to sell the gear that we bought and someone was saying it was all suspected as being stolen because there was a break-in a few years back and some of the gear we are selling is on the stolen list. That's just not cool to me.

Creek, I'm not mad about this whatsoever, it is quite amusing to me how people interpret words on the net though

Both sides are completly legit.
The only problem I have here here is that unfortunately we have a society where things are stolen and sold a lot. I think Jim and everyone else with doubts, me for one, have a right to question where all this came from. If we lived in a world where no one stole or the theft rate was less than 1% of what it is now and other crimes were also low to none, then we wouldn't even give it a thought. But it is what it is.
I have a recent encounter. I wen't to drop off my son at my Moms house last week and she told me that at around midnight she heard some noises and went to inspect. So she looked out the window and saw 3 guys with a bunch of speed bikes shuffleing them around trying to make them fit into the car and they failed so they just left one leaning on the tree near the sidewalk. One of the guys saw her and waved at her and they put the rest in the car and drove off.
I called the cops because it was a nice bike and wanted the owner to get it back. I could have kept it but didn't. Who would have known right? No one would have questioned me... So the problem here is that in a society where robbery is so entrenched we need to question everything. Especially bulk sell off's of high end stuff like this. I find that the whole innocent until proven guilty thing is fine in court but for me, let me judge and then feel bad about it. Because if I find something wrong and some stolen goods then I will be happy that the owners got their stuff back and the theif got caught. And... if things like this happen and people make it harder and harder for theives to unload their goods then I feel that all our stuff would be a bit safer....
There is about 6 or 7 people that wanted to bike the last few days that couldn't.......

Artin

P.S. Lets lower the bar for punishment to lesser crimes..... You know in some countries you can leave your store unlocked and leave for an hour or 2 and no one will steal anything.... hmmmm

I sent the link to the stuff on sale to Fisherman's Spot - Ken and Steve say that the stuff is NOT the equipment stolen from their store.
