Kudos to Allen fly Rods

Postby fflutterffly » August 7th, 2012, 4:48 pm

I went fishing the other day and all was grand. Beautiful day, fish on the hook, nice drive home. Once there I proceeded to clean my gear: stripping line off the reel, washing properly, cleaning my rod...and then it happened. I lost my balance, the rod pieces scattered and I stepped right on the tip top of my Allen XA 310!!! Heartbroken I contacted the company. GET THIS!!!! You simply go to their website and, under repairs, you tell them what section is broken. You pay the fee through paypal, they SEND YOU THE PIECE an presto... you have your rod in tact with no shipping back and forth. Brilliant. HEY! SAGE... GET A CLUE!

What is it with Texas companies doing it right? TFO & now Allen? Down home hospitality.

That's some great service!

Out of curiosity, how much did they charge for the "repair". And to be fair to Sage, they actually do repair some rods, so just sending a replacement, without seeing the damage is not really feasible for them.

That's a very fair price. Also think they have a fair warranty policy. If you break it by accident, or a bonehead move, you pay for the "repair". If it's a factory defect, it's on them.

John you should try their rods. Very well priced and fun to cast. I'm totally sporting the 310 and ready to look at their 7wts for the salt.

Ariel

Once you get the rod tip in put the rod together and give it a wiggle, if it clicks you might want to send your complete rod in so they can macth the tip to the rod.

Agree with Jon.
Even though it is a pain in the A. The whole matched rod concept isn't about factory interchangeable pieces.
I have had good luck with Sage. In fact one rod has made 3 trips to it's birthplace and back. Only the most recent (a few yrs ago) involved a charge. This is not a knock on the 310 just a kudo to Sage also.

oh don't get me wrong. I really enjoy my Sage rods (see plural!!!) but it is ridiculous having to wait sometimes a month to get a rod back, when a simple click of the mouse has the piece in hand in one week or less. I just like the forward thinking of sending the part that is broken. And as I said to Jon's suggestion... great reminder.
