sinking leaders

Postby silverlaker » September 4th, 2012, 9:23 pm

I haven't done a lot of streamer fishing - but this year I've had some fun giving it a go. I've been using a full sink line and its been pretty fun. Anybody use the sinking leaders from Rio. If so, do you like?

Thanks -

I used one for a few years, gets the job done. After a while gets kinda cumbersome to install but it does the job.

I bought mine at Brocks in Bishop, and Brock told me it was the "Poor Mans" sink tip fishing line... ;)

Tom

Look into the Jim Teeny series of sink tip line or the streamer express line for streamer fishning.

I use the Versi leaders on my switch rods, and have tried them on my single hand rods. Personally, I'm not fond of the sinking leaders with a regular, "trout" fly rod. I don't think the grain window is wide enough to add a 7' or longer Versi leader. You can certainly do it, but I just don't like how it feels. Odd, because I throw a lot of shooting head setups on "non trout" rods, and it feels fine to me. Guess I want a different feel when trout fishing. :?

sinking leaders

Thanks for suggestions everyone. The set up I've been running is on an extra spool. This has worked fine on day hikes, etc. - but I'm trying to find a lighter weight option for an extended backpack trip. The idea of not changing a spool is kind of appealing. It seems it would be awkward to cast... I found a polyline (didn't know I had). I'll dink around with that and see how the whole thing works before the trip.
