For sure, a fish of a lifetime. Years ago, you could see that size fish everyday on the Truckee. Fanny Bridge. :) Congrats to the guy who caught it!!

I saw the above fish posted on another forum. Predictably, it stirred up some controversy.....not about the fisherman, but who is the best guide in the area.

That is a beautiful fish. Guide or not, that's incredible.

I saw that picture while I was up there. There are some PIGS on the Truckee. It will do nothing but get better as fall moves in. It won't be long until we can fish Pyramid :)

Yep. That's one of the many reasons why I don't post to that forum any longer. What shoulda been an attaboy post for a guy nailing the fish of a lifetime (and the guide too), turned into the usual "my johnson is bigger than your johnson" fight. I'm sure glad that this forum isn't like that!

Yes, it is a very impressive fish, which leads me to a great question. How do I catch one? But seriously, our family is heading to South Tahoe on Veteran's Day Weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday. For some reason, it always falls on 10 November every year and for the past several years, we've been going to a time share at Tahoe and every time, we fly fish the East Carson River with great success. Cold November mornings, no crowds and exceptional fishing. However, we have considered fishing the Truckee every time, but stray away. I'm considering a Truckee guide rather than struggle on our own for a day. Any thoughts would be appreciated and I'll gladly take those thoughts in a PM. Thanks.

The guide link highlighted in the OP is the way to go. Matt "Gilligan" Coles is a top fly guide for the Big & Little Truckee Rivers in CA. And whilst I usually like to fish up there after the general season closure (NOV 15) for big nasty brownies, your date isn't that far off, and not outside the realm of possibility of nailing one! :Pop:

I checked the website and I am impressed. Hmm, something a little different for this year's birthday it looks like. Isn't it great how you can buy your spouse a lovely gift like this that she has to share, umm, with you? This will be awesome!
