Good article on mousing.
The fun way for dry fly fishing. No size 20 here.

Andrew was tossing those on dawn patrol at HC. I thought "there's no effin way he'll get bit on that..." I was wrong. Jealously wrong.

I know someone(you know who Jon) up there last week, swinging mice on a spey. I'm not sure how it gets better than that.

Locally, I wanted to prove to myself, I could mouse up some trout. It gets to be a grind, nymphing, or fishing tiny dries all the time. I needed to spice things up. First time out I had several grabs, and landed one fish.....all caught on video. This may get old too. I mean how many times can you watch a v-wake track down your mouse as it swings in the current. Those explosive takes, with fish blowing the mouse out of the water, is bound to get old.

Brian

Just saw Randys post on the kern site as well. Looks like fun to me and my size of dry fly to boot.

Very quickly as well.

I have a couple of those that came with my Bass selections......Now I just need somebody to take me to Alaska!

Seriously, I have fished the mouse on some of our locals looking for big browns, nothing yet, but after reading the article, I was doing it wrong!
Time to try it again.

After watching BlueMoon, I've been working on 2 mouse patterns with kicking legs(http://www.allseasonssports.com/catalog ... prevnext=1). 1 is tied standard with or w/o a hook guard and the other is tied with the hook riding point up, buried in the longer deer hair. So far the Bass have liked the weedlesss hook-up 1, the few times I've fished it to active fish. They seem to like it much better than the legless ones. I'm OK with the hook-up ratio, but not really happy even though it's way better than a weed guards ratio. I still haven't gotten to fish them to trout in a time & place I had confidense in. Has anyone else tried putting legs on their mice? For Trout?
I fish for my sanity. If I catch it, should I still practice catch and release?

Mousing...NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

I swung some everyday up north, just unreal. The takes and chases are hard to imagine, but even harder to forget at the end of the day. If you are one of those fly fishing purist who beleive that fly fishing is the quiet sport, then mousing may not be for you. You will find yourself screaming like a three year old, common phrases out of your mouth will be.....WOOOOHOOOOO, THAT'S WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT, EAT IT, EAT IT, DID YOU SEE THAT, DID ANYBODY SEE THAT???? HOLY SH.....!!!! All these phrases will be yelled at the top of your lungs. :o :o If you can't fish with sweaty palms and shaking hands, the hair standing up on the back of your neck and goose bumps all over. Then mousing may not be for you. I can hardly wait for the heavy work load of farming in the fall to end. My current life question is...."Can a 25 inch sipper who is feeding in slack water, eating size 22 BWO's be convinced that a 4 inch swung mouse is a better meal.   We'll know soon enough.

Glade you got back safe and sound.

Not the sippers you speak of, but about 300 yards upstream.

Brian and Randy very nice fish.
Did the mouse thing on the EW last year and had a lot of take, one hook up only.
It is a blast to fish with mouse patterns.

Last year I got a big brown on a Mouse at Convict Creek. Water was pretty fast in the area I was working, I was working a couple of undercut banks after no luck with hoppers and streamers, I pulled out a mouse pattern I have had for 10 years and never used and had it attacked on the 3rd cast.

By all reports, it looks like mousing is a pretty fun and effective way to get big trout. However, I think I'd still feel funny tying on Mickey and tossing him across to the far bank. ;) ;) ;)
