Shadow Casting....you must see this!

I have struggled over the years with the basic casts. These guys come off with some very interesting variations on the forward cast, See what you think.....

I can see no purpose for this cast. You can load the rod many ways, but what they are doing just seems like a spoof. I mean I understand the uses of many casts: overhand, underhand, roll, spey, steeple, and others but this one..... no.
I mean the last 2 casts have no loop integrity, do not strighten out the leader, and I am not sure they intended to deliver the cast where it ended up.

Not to mention how tangled your line/tippet/flies would become. Why not just use a roll cast?

PS I still see situations where that cast would be useful. Campfire. Cheetos. Lots of whiskey.

My first thought was it would just scare the fish too. I don't think they were kidding though. The last two videos were great! I can see them being useful casting techniques especially with lots of brush behind you.

Tongariro Roll Cast is definitely handy on that river because it is lined with bush. I often found myself doing some mutant haul casting because you're casting a ton of weight in many situations and I only had a 6wt. A lot of guys fish with a 8-9wt on that river.
