Camp cots

Been looking at camp cot for base camp instead of airbed next season. Be nice to sleep off the ground. I came across this cot, looks good for $48.

Has anyone tried this? The reviews of the Coleman one at Big 5 are horrible.

I have something comparable from Cabelas, cost about the same, very comfortable for 180lb 5'10" guy like me.

I've never cared much for the cots with the X-framed legs. I always worry about it poking holes in the tent. After seeing one that Stanbery had I bought one from walmart and really like it.

For something more compact I think I remember Eric having one of these that would sure sit closer and save space next to the slanted sides of a tent.

That Ridgeline 3 looks interesting. Trying not to be so low, like tent #2 you posted. Just a pain in the butt getting up and down, be nice to be able to sit on it at least. Planning on a 7 x 7 or 8 x 7 tent for just me, so I don't have to push up against the wall of tent.

Jon you can barrow my REI Comfort Cot and try it out. You won't believe the sleep. Holds up to 300lbs. and about 81". Legs adjust up to either level out sleep or raise it up for easy exit. However, it is 18.2 lb

Be sure and keep the length of your cot and the size of your tent in mind when buying. Because of the tapered walls at 17ins off of the ground you could easily loose over a foot.

You will need a 9 x 7 tent with a cot. And I use tennis balls on the feet of my army style cot to keep from poking holes in the tent floor. Also I have the Thermarest Dream Time pad, at an R value of 9 it is the warmest pad made.

I'm always interested to hear what folks use for car camping. Tent, camp furniture, stoves, and especially sleeping gear. The only cot I've ever considered buying, was the combo tent & cot.



I thought it would be good for my overnight trips, where sleeping out of the elements was my only concern. Quick setup and take down, but lacks any living space.

Anyway, a traditional cot just doesn't seem that comfortable to me, but I have trouble sleeping on anything but my own bed. This is my current car camping setup. It's more comfortable than most motel beds, and portable.



Cabelas Deluxe Camp Bed, memory foam, and 20 degree, Coleman, oversized bag.

Just wanted to show you what I bought, seems well built and comfortable. With a Thermarest pad on it, should be nice and comfy. Plus you can sit up and it's stable, nice to be able to put boots on and off.

Good looking cot, and the price is right and that should fit in a 9' by 7' tent. I like the Browning cot for my big tent and might have to get one in the future.

Hey, I bought the XL combo tent & cot and a thermo air bottom with an XXL 5 lbs sleeping bag. If all you are going to do is sleep in it is awesome, I am 5'6" over 230 Lbs. Fits me perfect and so comfortable and I can roll from side to side, It really works well and I sleep all night or at least till I have to pee. Easy to get in and out of. Not not used it in the rain, but I have to tell you no bugs ever got in. Let the air flow thru. The only problem is that I had to put my expensive fishing gear in the car and lock it and I camp in only developed camping grounds. Oh Yea, I bought it at BassPro.
I put my kid and her kids in the big tent and I have a great nights sleep.

Heck, I actually love the Big 5 cot sleep! It folds in half and has a pad. I really like it and for $50 smackers, not a bad deal. Spent 3 weeks on it in Yellowstone, and I loved it. I am 6'2" and 230. The REI Comfort Cot is fricken WAY sweet. I would take up FFlutterfly on her offer if I were you. Its a bit pricey though, and heavy according to Arial.
