Don't know if any of you ever shot a .454 Casull, but it is a big bullet, knocked me on my butt!

The bear being old explains the attack. It was unable to hunt its normal quarry and had to adapt. Can't fault the guy for his actions. One swipe from those paws would have been lights out.

Alaska is truly a wild place. I found out quickly that it's always bear o'clock there. He was a lucky man.

These bears are no joke when it comes to stealth. While in Alaska many years back; we had a bear sneak up on half of our group on the other side of the stream bank. Luckly we were on the far bank to see the trees move in a big way (without making a sound). That was when one of the guys on the other side noticed a foul smell. Right then the two guys next to me started yelling bear, hooting and yelling as loud as they could. The guys on the far bank slowly started to wade over to our side as we eagressed out of the area. We did see the bears head poke over the smaller trees. He was definately bigger/taller than all of us. There was no warning with this bear. Thank God he ranked of rotten fish. The two guys I was with had hunted big game in Alaska, and knew right away what was moving the trees behind our guys, especially when our group leader mentioned the rotten smell. The good thing was that no one was hooked up to a fish right then. If that bear charged he would have been on top of them without them even seeing him. He would have been over that stream and on top of us in no time flat too. We were happy that he was "full" of fish. God bless that guy for a greatful shot and that no one else was in harms way. Grizzleys are very beautiful and majestic yet very terrify at the same time.

Not sure what would be worse. The bear attack, or the recoil/muzzle flash from the 454 Casull. That's a short barrel he's packing.

I can't totally related to what he went through, but I have had a stared down with a grizzly. The feeling you are powerless, and could be a meal is indescribable.
