Stuck in Lodi Again

Postby WadeK » November 9th, 2012, 2:36 pm

I know this is short notice but I was just informed I am driving my Daughter to a Rabbit Show at the Lodi Fairgrounds this Sunday. Since I'm somewhat allergic to the little beasts, I want to drop her off and go fishing. What is legal and worth while up there? I think the Mokelumne is just a few blocks North. Not knowing the area, I dont know where the regs are referring to to see what's legal.
I fish for my sanity. If I catch it, should I still practice catch and release?

Looks like they have some VERY specific regs for the Moke. Looking at the regs, it looks like the river, east of hwy 99 is closed for "steelhead" and salmon. You can catch/keep 1 trout. From hwy 99 to the sort distance of the Woodbridge Irrigation Dam, it's open for trout, steelhead, and salmon....not going to quote keep limits. Then the short distance from below Woodbridge to the Lower Sac Road Bridge, it's closed all year. From there to the Delta, it's now open for trout, steelhead and salmon. All these areas are in, or close to Lodi. Having typed all that, I doubt you'll find trout that low in the river. You are much more likely to find warmwater fish......the river looks like it holds bass, but I've never fished it. The possibility exists for salmon, steelhead, and stripers. Do you have a steelhead card?

I live in Lodi, just how far are you willing to drive. There really isnt any access to the Moke near here. Lots of private property to contend with. The closest access is below Camanche dam at van assen park of Mcintire rd. If you are specifically fishing for steelhead you will need a card.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a Steelhead Card somewhere. Are there any fly or fishing shops near the fairgrounds that c/would give me legal direction?

Good luck, I would head north or south to some of the better rivers there if you have the time.

Be thankful for two things: Your daughter has a wonderful interest in rabbits. She has a sense of humor! Glad to see our newest member of the family.

Ya I've got a couple of pretty good kids. I don't think I'll trade either in any time soon.
